ok so Ive decided that this summer when I return home (maine) from school (MASS) that I will be growing shrroms. I have a perfect place in mind: an attic only accesible through my room. I will be living at my dads, but seeing how there arnt any oders involved I should be fine(he works from 8-6) . So no I just have a few questions:
What is the best strain to grow for a beginner looking for mushrooms that grow big and have a high yield? (the majority of these shrooms will be sold)
What is a tryed and tested online source?
Will boiling the cakes for one hour as opposed to pressure cooking them suffice?
If I do 12 cakes of your suggested strain, after all of the flushes, and they are dried, what is an average yeild I can expect? (in grams)
and lastly, when you innoculate the jars, do you prefer to innoculate all four holes of just one? and why?
any other tips and advice are welcome
Thanks!

I would say ecuador is a very easy strain to grow. I have always had a very hard time preventing mold using the basic rice cake jar method. With a small 12 jar 1 spore syringe grow I have always been able to get 1 good flush and then the penecilin mold starts. This will eventually ruin all the cakes and prevent further flushes.
My advice to you is if you live in a house that is more than a few years old or has a wet basement you should use an air purifier. I have used the rice cake jar method several times and only gotten a little over an ounce each time because of mold. If I where to do this again I would build a box with an air intake and an exhaust. Then I would setup a HEPA filter on the intake to prevent mold spores from entering the grow area. Just my 2 cents, I stick to cannabis now.

hmmm 1 flush and thats all before the mold starts? thats no good... This is really more for money and not me so I'm looking for a one pound yield over summer. If I start mid june and do evrything carefulluy how many cakes should I do to have a pound at the end of summer? (dried of course)

A pound is acheivable if you can stave off mold. What you should do is stagger the jars. Inoculate the first 12 keep them in a very warm place this will help them colonize quickly. When those jars are almost colonized start another 12. Leave the cakes in the jars a week after they are totally colonized. After they start fruiting things will happen very quickly harvesting mushrooms daily.
As long as you can keep mold away you should get 2-3 OZ's from 12 jars. Where do you live in maine? ( not asking for an address just a general area ) I don't use AIM.
