just to let you know i am new to the whole grow scene. i have read alot on these forumns, and alot of ebooks on indoor growing. just looking for some more experienced growers advise before i start. my setup is in a closet, dimensions are something like 4ft x 5.5ft x 7ft., i've got a 1000w hps switchable to mh ballast, w/ a large air cooled reflector. One of my friends loaned me2 white widow seeds , until my seeds arrive.
I heard good things about propagation trays, but not sure if this is the best way to go.?
and if it is, do i just have to get tray, dome, and rockwool cubes, or is there more to it?
any advise is greatly appreciated.

also need to know what type of light to use w/ seedlings, do i need to go to home depot buy another light fixture or will the 1000w MH work?

Well,
I prefer a glass of water and the top of the water heater/refrigerator for germination works for me. I also put them straight under the big lights just further away. When a plant grows outdoors does the sun give them any slack? I say put the MH to working but what do I know?

what do you do, just drop the seed in water, and place ontop of water heater? watch for is to pop open?

Hello sjacobs :).
Well I'm not sure about the best way, but I'll tell you how I do it.
Take four of five paper kitchen towels and place them on a sandwhich plate. Then give them a good soaking in lukewarm water, then drain off the excess water by holding the towels in place and tipping the plate upside down.
Put the seeds on the towels and place another four or five paper towels on top of the them, again give them a soaking with some more lukewarm water and gently drain off the excess water.
Put the plate in an even tempertured place out of the way, check regular to make sure the towels don't dry out and in two to four days the seeds will sprout. As soon as the sprout appears place the seed with the pointy end of the sprout facing downwards in the compost. Don't worry about giving the sprout light untill it pokes it's head out of the compost.
That's my way anyway ;)

I just soak in some peat tablets with PH6.0/6.2 water and add 1/3 dosis of root stimulator. I plant the seeds 1cm in the peat tablets, place the tablets on seed/cloning-soil and give them 24/0 of light untill the fist germination is visible. I use a 84W CFL lighting on top of a standard propagator. After the first sign of germination I set the timer on 18/6.
I germinated four times with this methode I've created, with 20 too 40 seeds per germination and gotten 100% every time, not counting fall-out in a later stadium.

Wate r for 24 hours then in the paper towels. After tap root comes out. Put about 3/4s of an inch below the soil.

soak them until they sink then place in a warm wet napkin or towel keep moist but not soaked put on a window sill and take a look the next day to see if they have germinated, the older the seed usually it takes longer for it to germinate
