When you get stoned you get really really hungry well i do and most people i know do too! now is this all just in your mind or is it because thc somehow effects your metabolism?

I dunno, but it's definatly got a propertie to give you an appetite. That's how its helps Aids and Cancer sufferers. With Aids and cancer patients undergoing chemo they loose they're appetite and start to waste away. The THC makes them eat and makes them healthier.

I know it effects your blood sugar levels some how giving the munchies. My brother is a diabetic on pills and can't toke no more. He found this out at a concert, he smoked up one jay and passed out cause his blood sugar level crashed.
Strange thing is, I have a buddy that is also diabetic and takes the shots.......no problems with the toking.:D

Have a good one!

Well, my sister is on chemo and has definitely felt more like eating since she's had something to smoke in the last couple of weeks. Her appetite isn't like it was before getting sick in the first place, but it's definitely better. I've joined her on a few occasions now, and the strange thing is it has just the opposite effect on me. I think I must be losing my hunger due to the fact that I'm busy coughing. . . .

I've read a lot of studies as far as cannabis and blood sugar goes.

When scientists first started doing studies on cannabis, it was widely believes that cannabis brought on low blood sugar which caused the munchies.

It's been concluded for years and years that "munchies" don't work this way.

"endocannabinoids for short, which work like neurotransmitters are produced as part of the built-in apparatus by which peripheral parts of the body inform the brain that it's lunchtime. Endocannabinoids and cannabinoid receptors are abundant in the hypothalamus, the region of the brain that plays a pivotal role in appetite regulation."

If you want me to break it down into simple-ese, than I can. :)

Cannabinoids represent a general class of chemicals, not just cannabis & THC in plants, but also cannabinoids that are produced in our bodies. These happen to be Lipid compounds that result from burning & making fats. The thing that is so unique about this system represents how it works so broadly for various health reasons. That is that every single system in our bodies & by system I mean our nervous system, digestive system, reproductive system, immunological system, endocrine system, you name it, & the cannabinoids are involved in maintaining what's known as a homeostasis balance. Food and feeding is at the heart of the Cannabinoid System. Our bodies produce cannabinoid like compounds to make us hungry (gives us the munchies). Then turn off these compounds & we don't have the munchies anymore when it has had enough food.

Please see my Cannabinoid threads (Uno, Dos, Tres, and Four) in Medicinal/Health for more information :)

i read that article too. what i thought was really interesting was i think right after that it said that the "high" we get from weed is a reaction that is normally created by our body, except strongly intensified.

GAHH that would explain why everyones high is different! because everyones body is different, and all cannabis is doing is intensifying what our body already does!!! oh man, im good.

THC is a psychoactive drug so it won't have any effect on the metabolism.

You get munchies because your body needs glucose for to flush the 'poison' out of your system, which is also why you dehydrate (cottonmouth). The whole process is similar to getting drunk.

I think your body wants fats because thc is fat soluble because your body probably thinks its bad. Thus trys to correct it by making you want more fats?

just a guess plus im high :D

Good guess MagicGrow and you're probably right. The symptoms are exactly the same for being drunk except alcohol doesn't give you trips.
