Hi everyone,

I am just barely into my first grow, but I am curious and want to start a discussion about flushing. I have gathered what I can from prior postings, but I still have questions about flushing. Like...

Why is flushing done?

How do you do it?

Simply pour 3 times the amount of water through the top of the pot that the pot can actually hold. For example, a 3 gallon pot will require 9 gallons of water.
You do this with 'clean' water, at (I THINK) pH 6.5. You usually do this a week before harvesting to rid the plant of nutes.

Flushing is done because all the nutrients that are in the plant dont taste very nice at all, by flushing you get rid off all the fert and chems that are in the plant and you get a much better smoke.

It also forces the plants to use theyre stock of thc I heard making it more potent.

well flushing the soil will get rid of the ferts thats remains in the soil which converts the plant to use the nitrogen which give u that grassy nasty taste even if u dry and cure correctly.hope that helps

Asintx,

Yes flushing is done in the last week or two of the flowering stage with just water to remove the taste that remains in the buds at harvest. Now the question you should have asked is it necessary? Well it depends on the type of fertilizer used. Organically grown plants do no require flushing and can be fertilized right up to the harvest date without any effects on the taste of the bud. Is there a difference? Well is there a difference in the price of organic fruit at the market compared to non organic? If your answer is yes then try a search for Foxfarm. Then again if you vaporize your buds taste is not an issue.

I don't really care for flushing when growing on soil. You only drain down the salts on top of the soil down too the roots. When I flush I don't use excessive amounts of water, I just stop giving nutrients for a while and just give the soil Enzymes for compostation of dead roots and waste materials in the soil.

u must flush, yes it is a must. otherwise the smoke would be so harsh, you cant enjoy the fruit of your labor. Flush with warm water that dissolves built-up salt faster.
