Over 10 years ago a good friend of mine was raped as 14 year old virgin, she didn't tell many people and as she had never experienced sex with intamacy, she had no issues with 'running trains' to impress a boy she fancied. Obviously, this lad had no respect for her (and dare I say it, women in general..) and was oblivious to the fact that he and his mates had caused this girl, who had already gone through the trauma of being raped at knife point, to suffer from such depression and post traumatic stress disorder that she has since made several suicide attempts.

The point of the story, smokin dope, is that any girl who lets this happen to her has no self esteem and is obviously not mentally stable. First he told us that the list of dead porn stars he gave us earlier just included the ones who died of aids and not those who died of of other miseries, including suicide and STDs, that have plagued the folks who work in the porn industry. There are more unhappy endings that come out of that industry than there are happy ones, I'm afraid.

Then I think he was simply making a rather profound statement about empty sex versus meaninful, emotionally and spiritually connected sex. Empty sex, while it may feel good, doesn't connect us on a deeper spiritual, emotional level to another being. Thus it's horizontal. Or perhaps another way to say "horizontal" is to describe it as "superficial" or surface-level connection to someone else.

Whereas a vertical, or love-based connection, runs much deeper. When you connect on a deeper level, you connect spiritually and emotionally and you begin to learn about that person's wants and needs and desires and you perhaps don't care so much about simply your own lustful gratification. When you've developed a sense of caring, empathy and intimacy with someone else, that's light years beyond meaningless sex.
