Hi All,

I have a seedling that's been up about 1.5 weeks. It is less than 1/2" high, and has tiny leaves. Any idea what is causing this slow growth? I realize that maybe it's just working on building a root system, but it just seems like it should have grown some by now. I have a 400W MH lamp 32" above.

Opinions appreciated!

No, no stretching at all. It's less than a half inch tall. It looks quite healthy, other than that and the small leaves. It is working on it's second pair of real leaves, which is good.

10 days is not to long. be patient give it a few more days, or you can feed it with superthrive 1 drop per galln.

Thanks, I just gave it the superthrive, but this morning it looks like it is on it's way to a slow death. It's starting to yellow. Maybe the ST will bring it back.

I am having such a hard time getting seedlings to grow. They come up, and look good for a few days, then they die. Most discouraging for a first time grower! I don't *think* I'm doing anything wrong, which makes it all the more discouraging.

thats weird...... i'm a first time grower too, and i've had like 20 succesful(knock on wood) seedlings sprout. only had one die.

As I replant, the new seedlings die too. A couple of you suggested a possible fungus in the planting medium. I am almost out of seeds (help!), but I am going to try and sprout one using different soil.

Maybe you over watered it. I bet thats it.
I just sprouted some seeds and they are growing there second set of leaves after 3 days.

Is there any way of rectifying overwatering, besides just letting the pots dry out on their own?

I just dumped out a pot so I can clean it and try a different soil. Even though the top 3" of soil were dry, the rest of the pot was really wet!

So I think you may be on to something. I hope my one remaining seedling doesn't die before it dries out some!

Thanks for putting me in a new direction.

do you have holes in the bottom to let the water flow out if so maybe need more or bigger holes?

did you mix any perlite?

try those things if you have not already done so

What is the temp in your grow room? The temps from the 400watt light might be to high! Also do not start small plants out with a 400 watt hid light use floros less stress on the plants from heat. After the plant gets about 8 inches then switch to the good old hid light!

Hi,

The temperature fluctuates from 78-84. Yes, the 400MH puts out the heat! It's all I have to use, so I have it up about 3 feet above. I used a drop of superthrive in a gallon of water and have fed them a small amount for two days. The slow grower is now beginning to veg, with some small, but healthy leaves. So it think it's going to pull out.

Thanks! I think you have hit the nail on the head. I have good sized holes in the bottom but I don't think it was draining too well. I tipped it and quite a bit of water came out! So I need to cut way back on watering.

My splanting medium is 6 parts organic soil, 2 parts perlite, and 1 part peat moss.
