View Full Version : Poll! Harvest in August?

I have a friend who wants my help in an outdoor grow. We will split the harvest 50/50.
However, my friend insists that either we harvest at the end of August or he will do it on his own. He is concerned about rippers.
I explained to him several times and showed him the Overgrow Strainguide still available at http://www.hanflexikon.de where all the plants have the earliest harvest time of October. Therefore, I *proved* that harvesting in August is premature.
He continues to believe that his August idea is good because of his theory that if you plant the plants in June, you get 1 month for veg and 2 months for flowering, which is a total of 90 days, with a harvest at the end of August. I explained to him that the sun has to go into shortening days down to no more than 12 hours/day and the plants must be receiving 12 hours or less of sun per day for an entire 60 days for the plants to properly mature.
Should I:
a) give in and agree to the August harvest and just take whatever I get from the harvest.
b) tell him to fuck off and he can have the entire shitty harvest himself, since it won't be worth a damn anyway
c) hope he comes to his senses and agree on a harvest in early October.
Your choice?

u can get early flowering genetics that still yeild big. but you wont harvest till mid to late september. look for genetics designed for outdoors in canada these will finish late august early september with good yeilds.
it doesnt matter if u plant in april or june the plants will begin to flower at the same time. it has nothing to do with how old they are it has to do with the number of hours of light and dark. when it gets close to 12 hours light and 12 dark it will begin to flower usually in mid august but this varies on your location.

C... The earliest you would want to harvest is late september... in august it will barely have any bud and i think your friend will agree to wait once you get there

Nah, he's an arrogant dumbass who doesn't accept advice of those if it doesn't already his own opinion.
Even if he's wrong.
Fuck, this is aggravating.
I guess I don't need the help to do it myself, but it would make things easier (he'd start the seedlings at his place and not mine, hence less legal liability on my end).

it depends on what strains you are growing. if you are growing bagseed dont expect to harvest till late september through october. you can buy seeds that will be completely done in august and early september. mighty might, early gold, purple pineberry, these all finish in mid august to mid september

He's got none of that; just bagseed and Nirvana strains I may or may not give him. even if I did, they're (can you believe I almost typed "their"!?!) not set to mature until Late October. I already did the research prior to our meeting, so I could develop a game plan.

Hey, I think I understand your friend. He believes that by planting on June 1, the plants will grow until the summer solstice (June 22) and then start flowering, hence they finish by the end of August. Theoratically it works, the problem is that the solstice effect is a much slower change of the photoperiod than the indoor switch from 18 to 12 hours of light per day. The plants need some time - a month - to recognize this, that's why they finish at the end of September, if you're lucky. Try to explain this, hopefully it will convince him. Have a nice crop!

Yep. I already decided that's what I'm gonna do today. You win!
What does he win?
Knowing he won!

I would say to grow it on your own and don't tell him. Your friend sounds pretty clueless.

Go solo.
It's not worth him going behind your back and possibly taking it all before you get to it, then claiming it was someone else. Always go solo unless it's your significant other that you've got as a partner in 'crime'.

Yea, I was having almost the same problem except my friend is just an idiot.
He wanted me to grow with him and he wanted to grow way too much, in dumb places, with no clue as to how a plant grows. That's why I decided to go solo and leave him behind to do his own thing. Currently he has two plants that are 5 months old, held in veg because he doesn't listen when I tell him to turn the lighting down to 12/12, they're only about a foot and a half tall because he's using a small flourescent bulb to try to mature a plant fully..
jeez, anyway, my whole point was, fuck him, go solo. You seem smart and I imagine you'll do much much better alone.

I agree. I think I'll just tell him that if he's dead-set on an August harvest, he can go right ahead and try to prove that he can do it, even though I already know he can't.
What's funny is he called me tonight and wants to get my advice on another topic of growing. Sheesh. Pick one: either you don't respect my opinion and expertise, or you do.

One way to get an early harvest is to get a big tarp. And control the hours of light with the tarp. But it has to cut out all the light. But very possible.
