today i procured a lot of the things i needed to setup this CFL grow closet. I'm planning on using a 300 watt cfl bubl in the main fixture on the cieling. I have 3 indoor lighting spotlights (they are little white cylinder shaped things that have a 60w capcity) and ill be using small 100 watt bulbs in them. I know this is a bit risky but im very much willing to take it for the extra wattage. Finally I have to mounted spotlight type lamps wich i have not decided on a bulb yet. they have 150 watt capacity and i was only thinking of putting 100 watt lamps in them; by lamps i mean they are bigger than a regular bulb im sure you can imagine what im talking about...(kind of like a heat lamp but not...and halogen) the closet is spacious with a canopy built around the entire closet and covered in foil. the canopy is built 2 ft away from the cieling...i know kind of high but with cfl lighting i dont think they'll get too big and iff they do ill move them to the floor of the closet. theres a digital thermometer under the canopy in the shade of the canopy I'm also going to put a medium sized fan to circulate air and keep things a bit cooler. the lamps are connected to a plant light timer which has a light sensor on it but i covered it with duct tape and it can do dusk to dawn, 2, 4, 6, and 8 hour incriments and on all the time. im taking suggestions and tips.

Move the clothes... as you said, fire hazard. Don't want to explain no burnt plants to no firemen followed by cops.
As to halogen, don't use it. It's, basically, worthless.
As to your CFLs... there are two watt ratings on CFL bubls... the big number is the Watts which that CFL is comparable to (incandescent VS CFL)... the lower number, is the actual consumption of the bulb.
Timer: Can't you get a normal timer? They're not that costly... and your "light sensored" timer seems a bit... um, ... .... normal timer?

as soon as i get a new battery in my camera i can post a few pics but...i have taken the clothing out of the closet and incubation has begun...I have planted 6 seeds that were fully or mostly gerinated. the seeds are currently in a 6 plant tray and have a 200 watt bulb and the two lamps with 100 watt bulbs all cfl no halogens. i hoping to at least another 200 watts of bulb in the 3 white cylinder fixtures. ill be sure to keep everyone posted on my progress so check the boards.
(btw, since this is my first cfl grow attempt i am using mid-grade bag seeds but im sure they'll come out nicely)

Those halogens or incandescants would be good to provide some warmth for germinating seeds or maintaining the correct temp if the CFLs aren't warm enough. Once they pop up and start to look for light you'd be better off removing them. Use the back of your hand to test warmth. If it becomes uncomfortable after a minute or so then move them away.
Refer to Turtles post especially in regards to CFL wattage and timers. Even though the guy can't actually grow anything he has a wealth of knowledge. :)

I'm not growing MJ right now since I'm living with my dad for a few months before I go off to college, but I transformed my walk-in closet into a CFL haven...
Just go to home depot and buy the 120 watt CFL lights, then go to where they have the vanity lights for bathrooms and such and buy a light strip that has 4 lights or more in a row on it. Mine had a silver finish on it and I just popped it off and voila! I had 4 sockets all in a line that I had 4x120 watt CFL going on an 18-6 schedule that I regulate using a $5 timer from home depot. Total cost of lighting, less than $50...
My current grow is tomatoes, and they are freakin huge...
[ps. make sure you put something below your plants to protect the floor. I use a 4' x 2' rubbermaid container]
And also remember to vent out your closet with completely new air at least once a day if you can.
