in class today for about 20 minutes but me and my classmates kept shutting her down. She was claiming all this bullshit and we kept telling her how she was wrong. Finally she said, " if nothing else than inhaling the heat is bad for your lungs" liek 4 kids yelled back "thats why i have a bong!" Funny shit

Rofl, "cannabis kills", thats the most retarded shit I ever heard. I think most people try to target weed because people smoke it, but they dont mention that you dont have to just smoke it, weed can also be eaten if the smoke just happens to bother people. Heres what they should be saying "cannabis is great, cannabis heals!" xD..

What your teacher is saying is that if you live in warm climates, you're gonna have respiratory problems. The Weed is just a metaphor.
I don't know where he'd get that information from.

You guys realize that smoking.. ANYTHING.. not just cigarettes or pot or cigars.. IS bad for you...you ever see the resin buildup on the inside of your bong??
After years and years of use.. your lungs WILL show signs of abuse.
The argument of course.. is that out of anything you can smoke.. pot is probably the one with the least amount of carcinogens.
So if you're going to smoke anything.. smoke pot.

I'm a toker but I have to admit that smoking anything just isn't healthy for your lungs. I gave up cigarettes 5 years ago for just that reason. However, I don't smoke nearly as much weed as I did tobacco. I was a pack to a pack and a half per day man. Remember, all smoke contains carbon monoxide which is a byproduct of combustion. Let's enjoy our habit but don't pretend it's healthy. Shit, if it was healthy it probably wouldn't be as much fun. I guess that's why they call it a "vice"!

Tobacco and cannabis smoke contain the same carcinogenic compounds - and depending on which part of the plant is smoked, cannabis smoke can contain more of them - but, whereas nicotine activates these carcinogenic compounds, THC has been shown to inhibit them in mice cells. THC is very likely to have protective effects against the carcinogens present in smoke in humans too, but cannabis smoke remains nonetheless carcinogenic.

Well said.
If smoking was "Healthy" for you.. then why would they stop advertising cigarettes not to mention just another reason to keep pot illegal.

I once heard THC opens up your veins whereas nicotine makes them narrower.
Can't remember where I got it from, probably because of the THC:)
Can anyone back this up?
are you kind

i think that has something to do with your airways. like i know asthmatic people that can't smoke cigs but weed makes them feel better

Carl Sagan was a pothead.
I suppose his achievements as an Astrologist and Astronomer were nothing more than the results of his cannabis abuse.

As are you kind already said, this is air passages, not blood vessels. THC dilates your airways which allows your lungs to clear shit out more easily, while nicotine restricts them and keeps it in. THC does dilate your blood vessels too (which is why your eyes get red) but I don't think nicotine restricts them.

Carl Sagan was most definitely not an astrologist! As he himself said in his excellent essay, The Burden of Skepticism (http://www.positiveatheism.org/writ/saganbur.htm):
"If science were explained to the average person in a way that is accessible and exciting, there would be no room for pseudoscience. But there is a kind of Gresham's Law by which in popular culture the bad science drives out the good. And for this I think we have to blame, first, the scientific community ourselves for not doing a better job of popularizing science, and second, the media, which are in this respect almost uniformly dreadful. Every newspaper in America has a daily astrology column. How many have even a weekly astronomy column? And I believe it is also the fault of the educational system. We do not teach how to think. This is a very serious failure that may even, in a world rigged with 60,000 nuclear weapons, compromise the human future.
I maintain there is much more wonder in science than in pseudoscience. And in addition, to whatever measure this term has any meaning, science has the additional virtue, and it is not an inconsiderable one, of being true."

Hm, my mistake. It seems that he wouldn't be the type to have spread any form of false influence throughout the media in the form of prognosticative crap.
I stand corrected.
Must have been thinking of Nostradamus.

Yep, we watch this Carl Sagan series called "Cosmos" in physics occasionally...one day this student gave this speech to this class about how he had researched about Carl Sagan and found out that he was a pothead and contributed most of his ideas to it....so we started watching and then Sagan said something like "if gravity was twice as much we would all be moning slow, Im sure all of us have been to parties like that" ...the whole class burst out laughing...:p 'my physics teacher just kinda laughed too...SOmetimes i think he might have been a pothead...he mentioned pink floyd one day while we were playing with lasers....
