i'm a little confused about the whole concept of FIMing. is it much different from topping?
ok firstly do you cut the fan leaves or the secondary growth shoot from that node?
secondly, if it is the fan leaves you trim is it at the node or do you leave a little extra of the shoot.
can you do it to the new growth on the cola?

from what i understand you cut the fan leaves in a staircase sort of way at each node, so one leaf at each node.

lastly is it better than LST?
anyone willing to help me learn a bit more about this technique?

Alex's link is very good.

FIM = topping

LST vs FIM... they're different things.

With FIM, you get two or more tops. And you don't necessarily keep the height controlled.

With LST, you get same top, but you control the height as you wish.

Of course, you can use a combination of both. LSTing with FIMing.
