Hi i was just on the site and notice that they are actually carrying these lights now. I was just wonder how good homedepot's hps and mh are. I am new to these lights so help me out.

now i am planning on hetting a hps and a mh from there if you think they are worth it or get what you paid for situation because i am currently growing with CFLs and they are working fine but still am interested in better lighting.

The 2 that i am looking at (low on cash) :
This bulb has mogul base, 28500 lumens, 24000 life hour, 9-3/4 in. overall length, 2-1/4 in. dia., ED-18 shape, 21 CRI, 2100 K CCT. Mfg #C250S50/ALTO.

â?¢ Ceramaluxâ?¢ 250 Watt Clear High Pressure Sodium Bulb
â?¢ Mogul base.
â?¢ 28500 lumens.
â?¢ 24000 life hour
(btw homedepot sells up to 1000W)

and the metal halide:
Features mogul base, enclosed luminiaries, 21250 lumens, E-28 bulb, 10000 hr. average life, M58/E ANSI code, 60 CRI and 4000 K color temperature. It''s overall length is 8-5/16 in. Mfg #MH250/U

â?¢ 250 Watt Clear Metal Halide Bulb
â?¢ Mogul base.
â?¢ 21250 lumens.
â?¢ 10000 hr. average life

now both of theses are around $25 each, and does mogul base mean it comes with the cord/socket.

So i understand Mettal Halide is for Vegging and High pressure sodium is for Floweing correct? and will my results be decent with only 250W bulbs?

All info/advice is appreciated.

MOGUL is the screw-base size ...it looks like a conventional bulb, but is much larger ... you also need a ballast for these lights , gets pricey ... go here for the best prices I've run across ... I have ordered other items from them, and received fast service ... http://www.hydroponics.net/grow-lights.asp ... be sure to surf their site thoroughly, they do have very handy items ...

I know how you feel, i also DONT buy online, i cant trust anyone.

And now, Low Pressure Sodium... Something i haddnt heard ANYONE talk about untill very recently.

I saw a chart, and the lumen output of a LPS is higher than a HPS.

It went:

Flous
MH
HPS
LPS

LPS being the highest lumen output. With 250 watts you should get some very nice buds, and its certainly beter than using CFL's, although high wattage CFL's in the right spectrum can be VERY good too, but nothing can match HPS/LPS.

Yes, i have heard alot of good things about Lps recently (week or 2) and no they are basically the same set up as hps i believe. I am going to see if they have ballasts at home depot but i highly doubt it. If i cant find any around here i just may make the craziest CFL set up this side of the planet!

Oh btw, i have heard soft white cfls are bad and all and i am using cool white for now but my friend with surprising results has been usuing soft white and they are no where near good but if you cant find cool white for veg soft white cfls are good enough to start little seedlings if you plant on transplanting to outside, they are good to use for 2 weeks max, and only if the light is 1 inch away from the plant. None the less i was pretty surprised. Good for starting seedlings.
