confused about sprouts

ok so i put my seeds in a moist rag for about three days and they started to sprout. now im a newbie grower here and im confused when i plant them in my soil do i plant them with white sprout pointing out up or pointing down on the soil?

Pointing down, Openmind :).

The pointy end of the sprout is going to be the root, and the plant that will be above the surface is still in the shell. By puting the root facing downwards it can just grow in the direction it's facing.


Mind you I have had the very odd seed that still insisted growing with the root sticking out the compost. Then it was just a matter of turning it around, but it's very rare that happens ;) .

Point the root up and made a new kind of plant with the buds in the soil... that would be kick ass
