How does God decide who goes where? Our bodies don't disappear and I don't think our minds do either. Picture the soul being a recording of your life. Once you die, your mind can view it. Depending on whether you like the show defines your heaven or hell. There's other cool stuff I think like invisibility, teleportation, wings, laser beam eyes (that's what you get in hell.)

Why would a just and loving omnipotent God allow Satan to exist? Isn't Satan supposed to be evil and worthy of punishment? Why would God toss all the sinning souls to him, so they can be tortured forever as punishment for a finite number of sins, without any possibility of forgiveness ever? Don't forget this is supposedly a God who turned himself into a person who preached forgiveness as the divine word to man. It just doesn't make sense, logically speaking. But then again, faith never seems to care much for logic.

What is god and what element is he made of? what or who put god into power. If god is Not a element then what composes his body and if he is does that make his elements hes made of still restricted to the laws of physics ? Does that mean God has a Atom in him ? if god's not atoms or antimatter and is not conected to our relm then what else is exsisting in that relm? more Gods? If gods been around forever then when did he do befor he created Jesus nothing for infinty?

Does Satan serve a purpose in God's "Plan" ?

hhmm, God and Satan, good and evil, yin and yang, light and dark, up and down, Heaven and Hell...great metaphors. Of course they all exist in their own ways. But probably not in the ways you and I think they do.

God and satan must be homies. :stoned: Otherwise, yeah, can't see why god wouldn't have zapped his ass. Look at the book of Job, they get on like old buddies in that story, making bets about whether Job's gonna snap. God puts Job (his extremely faithful servant) through hell, and Satan gets off scott free!

Seems most people are guessing at what is....The bible teaches so much more then what churches do.....For one: There was an earth age before this one,,During this earth age God created ALL of us ALL races included...We lived for millions of years on this earth(thus science and Gods word coinside) Satan or Lucifer was also created by God and was kinda in charge God created Him to kinda be a leader...In this earth age we where all in Spiritual Bodies Like Christ was after His ressurection and we did stuff like build great cities(atlantis) ect....But Satan after awhile said Hey who needs God I'm God and Deceived 1/3 of Gods Children to believe this,,God who loves us Then sentenced Satan and said He would perish in the lake of fire...Now God did not want to destroy his children So He Destroyed that earth age Took us all up to Heaven And started to recreate the earth This is where Genesis 1:1 comes into effect...He stated that each soul whould have to be Born from above(heaven) and come to this earth born innocent of what had happened in the first age and he would offer salvation to thus who where lost and deceived in the first age Everyone but Satan...God allows Satan dominion over this earth age to kinda test us and basically seperate the good from the bad...Satan is here in Spirit and works that way but at the end of the 2nd earth age Satan will be thrown out of Heaven by Micheal the arch angel and appear on this earth claiming to be Jesus Himself..This is the abomination of desolation spoken of by the prophet Daniel...He will test those alive in this world Most the world will follow him and worship him as god Just what he has always wanted...He will be here for 5 months the time is shortened from 7 years to 5 months..After this the True Christ will return...Everyone on this earth will be turned back into there spiritual bodies and the 1000 year reign of Christ will begin....Satan will be bound up at this time and at this time everyone will have the chance to learn Gods Ways there will be no war and peace will reign at this time...However after the 1000 years satan will be released again one more time and will go through the world getting many to try to again overthrow God... It is at this time that Judgement day occurs....Satan is trown into the lake of fire and he no longer exist as well as anyone else who goes against Gods way...Those who love God will go into the book of life and God will cleanse this earth and the 3rd and final earth age will begin God will take any remebrance of those who perish in the lake of fire from our minds and we will all live in Peace with God forever for eternity...Thats why there is a God and Satan and whats going on..study here if you want to learn more and prepare youirself for all of this....www.shepherdschapel.com...

Not really. We reds don't much care for Jesus' teachings, as they are quite incompatible with the idea of staging an anti-capitalist revolution and overthrowing the exploiters of the working class.
Ye have heard that it hath been said, Thou shalt love thy neighbour, and hate thine enemy.
But I say unto you, Love your enemies, bless them that curse you, do good to them that hate you, and pray for them which despitefully use you, and persecute you;

if god were real and nice and all the bull shit why the hell would he let that shit happen? why would he let those innocent people die?
hes testing you/us? people need to go through harsh times to discover who they really are?
i call bullshit on all that. i dont buy it one bit. i do believe that shit happens though, and how you deal with it decides what kid of person you are.
~however~ i do believe that everyone has a right to believe and practice what they wish. i can respect others opinions and how they chose to lead their lives, as long as they respect mine.

The excuse I hear a lot from Christians is that evil is necessary for us to have free will. Of course, they fail to realize this means there would be no such thing as free will in Heaven.

Oneironaut,
All you're doing is questioning God. You don't have the reputation that he has for us to believe you over him. What makes you think that your words have more wisdom than his? You think that you have "outsmarted" the bible. From my point of view, far from it. But like I stated in another thread, I'm not here to convince you, cause you will be convinced when your eyes see him. Now you can say what you like, but you won't prove me wrong until after you have died.

Oneironaut,
All you're doing is questioning God. You don't have the reputation that he has for us to believe you over him.
Umm, well for one unlike your god, I exist. And secondly, I try to base my conclusions about reality on observation and logic. If you see a logical hole in my ideas, please point it out so I can reassess my ideas.
Truth is not dependent on reputation, but on factual accuracy.
What makes you think that your words have more wisdom than his? You think that you have "outsmarted" the bible. From my point of view, far from it.
Anybody can outsmart the Bible. I really don't see what's so deep and profound about it. It's really disgusting and offensive, and I can't see why any rational being would put their faith in a book that promotes the oppression of women, the brutal execution of gays and Sabbath workers, slavery, inaction as a response to injustice, and the demon theory of disease. Society has evolved past the Bible. It's time to rely on ourselves for determining how to live our own lives, instead of the superstitious nonsense of some ancient sexist racist slave owners whose idea of a good time was to burn animals because they thought the magical sky wizard liked the smell of it.
But like I stated in another thread, I'm not here to convince you, cause you will be convinced when your eyes see him.
Exactly. I can't be convinced of the existence of something until I have sufficient evidence to affirm that this thing does in fact exist. I can't just close my eyes and say "OK, God is real" anymore than I can just close my eyes and say "OK, unicorns are real". So if God refuses to provide me with sufficient evidence of his existence, that's his fault and if he wants to punish me for his own wrongdoing, then fuck him. I don't need fucking dictators telling me how to think and live anyways; I'd gladly take the punishment and do what I think is right than follow the dictates of the cosmic Führer so I can get on his good side.
Now you can say what you like, but you won't prove me wrong until after you have died.
Sorry, but when I'm dead my brain won't work so I won't be able to experience anything, and neither will you. That's the one down side to atheism; there's no "we told you so" at the end. :p

"What makes you think that your words have more wisdom than his?"
I wouldn't believe Oneirnaut over God either. Only problem is God is staying pretty mum.
Of course, over the years, there's been a lot of people more than willing to tell you what God has to say. The Pope, etc...on down to posters on this board. But with some reflection on the facts, it's starting to look like their sources are a little shakey.
I don't think anybody will be proving anything wrong after they're dead though. Let's face it, we've had a lot of dead people for quite some time now and none of them have really proven anything.
So at least Oneirnaut is making some really good arguments for his point of view. Try as I might, I'm not hearing any from the other side. Nothing that sounds reasonable anyway.

Pass That Shit, you take an awfully convenient side on this. How could anyone possibly prove you wrong if you won't listen to logic and the "only way" to make you believe otherwise is to die?
(ok this post already sounds terribly insulting. I think I'll take this opportunity to write up a little disclaimer:
THIS IS MY OPINION, AS FAR AS IM CONCERNED IM NOT WRONG, BUT NEITHER ARE YOU. WHETHER IT SOUNDS LIKE IT OR NOT, I RESPECT YOUR OPINION AND THE OPINIONS OF ALL PEOPLE. I BELIEVE LOVE AND COMPASSION TRANSCEND RELIGION AND THAT TOLERANCE IS ESSENTIAL TO PEACE ON EARTH. ok, that ought to do ;) )
I think it's silly to place any one being/creature/thing/god over humans. We are here... now... and that's a fact. If we have free will then what we're doing is our choice and is thus entirely unaffected by any God.
Now this is not to say that I denounce all Christian teachings. Far from it. But I believe that those teachings (such as love thy brother, dont steal, have compassion for all beings, etc. et all.) can and do exist outside of a worldview which is constrained by the will of God. These are also teachings which should pretty much be self-evident and concrete.
I, myself, subscribe to a self-filtered version of Buddhism. However I don't like to associate myself with any religion in particular because my beliefs are shaped by my own personal, tangible experiences and my subjective interpretation of that which is presented to me in the world.
Being a primarily logical and reason-based thinker, I believe that empiracal information is essential to understanding the world we live in. Now, I admit that there is definitely room for speculation, theorizing, even leaps of faith but that these are tools which are necessary to allow us to view the world from all sides and then discover new truths.
No, God and Satan do not exist.

I want there to be more. I want to die physically and find out that our views aren't just a drop of intelligence in an ocean of what we have no clue about, nor ever could. I really, really, REALLY want to beleive that there is more than just a chemical reaction promoting every feeling and expirience I'll ever have. I think we all want this.
But if none of these things are possible... even in death... I thank the unknown for giving me the chance to expirience chemical/physical existence.
There's always something less. Something worse. If bacteria somehow got to choose between it's reality and a rats, it would choose the rats. If a rat somehow got to choose between itself and a human life, the choice would be obvious.
I'm just glad i'm not privy to the knoledge of the higher reality.

For what it's worth....
My logic tells me that the only reasonable choice to make here is agnosticism.
There is no way to know if there is a higher being or not. Perhaps the atheists amoung us would say that I'm giving creedence to something by even considering it that much. But I see atheists and theist as being in the same boat...at least on one thing....each of them insists he knows the truth. I say, bullshit. We don't know anything.
One thing is for sure though...None of the popular religions are right. If there is a god he is looking down at us in disgust over how we have used religion to manipulate, steal, kill, etc.
Agnostics are the only people who realize they do not or cannot know. That is the only real truth. Everything else is just guesses.

Uhh...that was Voltaire dude. He said it way back in 1770 long before the "Easy Riders" ever existed. Please tell me you know who Voltaire is.

I know who Voltaire is. I'm not sure I know who 'Easy Riders' is. Peter Fonda, Dennis Hopper and Jack Nicolson? It sounds like something Jack Nicolson would say and I know he wouldn't have any problem knocking off Voltaire, but I don't remember that line in the movie.

No... I don't belive in god or the devil... As a kid, I loved god and feared the devil. As I got older, I began to see with my eye's all the bad shit that happens in this world and began to fear both god and the devil. Around 16 I began doing extensive researh, looking at other religions etc. and came to the conclussion that the issue is unimportant. If there is a god, and he is truly loving than he will have no problem with my not beliving in him. A true "god" cannot be so selfcentered. The botom line is this. I don't believe in god nor do I disbelieve. I am simply agnostic and have excepted the fact that some higher power is not going to save me when I fuck something up.

i'm agnostic. the closest belief in a supreme being I have is believing a supreme being created existance. i keep thinking where everything came from. like the big bang, where'd that come from? i totally believe in evolution and if a God does exist, I highly doubt that he cares much about 1 little planet where people kill each other in the name of him. i see the universe as one giant ant farm.

For you to say that you exist and he doesn't, you're only pointing out that you don't believe he put you here. Even though you don't have a clue to how you got here, I should believe your words over his right?
Where is the logic in choosing unbelieving over believing?
If what I preach is right, then you are screwed. If what you say is right, then I'm with you. Why should I take your side? At worst, I'm with you. What is the logic in choosing something with no upside?

For a long time I suffered from a similar objective, mechanical outlook on life and the universe -- the crushing, overwhelming weight that comes with realizing that you're an insignificant speck of life at the unsympathetic whim of an inconceivably vast and complex universe, and the simultanious emptyness at feeling that your life is a meaningless mechanical/chemical process. It's a truly helpless and hopeless feeling, and at least speaking from personal experience that view has contributed to a lot of negative feelings and depression in my past.
My current outlook is more... I guess, more animistic, though perhaps not in the strictest definition of the word. I consider humans to be "expressions of the universe", as Alan Watts would say. That 'meaning' and 'significance' as one would use the terms in a spiritual sense have nothing to do with how big or small they are in the universe. That the chemical and electrical impulses which are necessary for having thoughts and emotions makes said thoughts and emotions no less significant, because they themselves are a part of a beautiful, sacred process. Just because these happenings -- the vastly intricate inner-workings of our bodies, to the outer complexities of the universe -- can't be fully translated into thought (that is, into symbols, words and numbers), makes them no more or less important than any other part of the natural universe, including ourselves, our thoughts or the complicated workings of our cells and nervous system. On it's most basic level, it's all one reciprocal happening.
All the energies of the cosmos, the forces that create and move the gallaxies and solar systems and stars and planets -- those same energies move us, too.
