In your opinion what do you believe to be the point of life?

Why are we all here?

phareye

i think we're here for no other reason than we evolved to be what we are.
the fact that we have a thinking, reasoning brain doesn't give our existance any more significance than a sea turtle's.
hell, if anything, we're (as the late great Bill Hicks put it) a virus with shoes.
that being said, we do have the ability to do good to our fellow man and this wonderful world we live in.

I agree 100% Who cares why we're here. We can't undo it anyway. All we can do is live a good life and treat people the way we would want to be treated.

to learn, to gain experience, just to exist... nothing more.... they answer to 'why do we even exist" may, and probably will never be discovered... live everyday as it's your last... never forget those words..

to procreate and continue the human species. no god put us on earth to perform some duty or for some special reason. life is merely extreme luck and coicidence of evolution. we are here to support all living things, we are piece of the puzzle in the grand scale of life. life not as in how humans live, but plants animals, bacteria, atoms and the universe.

I've always thought that aliens probably have some kind of superweed, like our white widow is dirt compared to what they have

anyway I now believe that we are just here, that's it there's no reason we're here we just are. Everything just happens no reason for it it just does, I also think the big bang theory is a lot more logical than some superbeing who was always there suddenly decided to create a little ant farm.

Of course there's no point to life. We're just big bags full of chemicals that were formed billions of years ago through nuclear fusion in the centers of stars. The meaning of your life is whatever you make of it. Define the purpose of your own experience. That is how you make life fulfilling.

to procreate

Honestly, some days I wish that was the only point to my life.

But in all seriousness, my opinion as to the meaning of life changes daily. Sometimes I honestly feel like I'm here for a reason, to make some sort of change and to make life easier for my loved ones. Other days (more often lately) I wake up and stare at my ceiling for hours, wondering if I could just fade out of existance and if it would make a difference.

On a lighter note, happy 4/20 everyone!

Well, i think we are here to evolve, and that is our purpose and once we've reached a certain point that task will be complete and maybe one perfect human will exist, or maybe two. like a dude a broad so that they could start some new evolutionary process.

Everything is mathmatical with an emphasis on 2. So for ever action there is an equal and opposite reaction, therefore 2 actions for every 1 action.
There are 2 sexes (sometimes, dont even get me started on sea annenomies, those were a failed try at life, lol stupid sea annenomies.)
You have 2 eyes, hands feet balls (or ovaries for our not-so-testicularly inclined counterparts) etc etc

But anyways alot of my posts deal with understanding this very question of wtf are we doing here and why.

i also think we could just be fulfulling one of the components of exsistence, we have to exist in the way that we do so that the reality that is, can be.

whatever, i'll get super stoned later and answer this question again, this post is going to be my sober post! EUREKA! that just gave me a fun idea for a thread.

I can say that I have never really found an answer good enough for that question accept for the answer I have inside witch is :there are no answers only choices. In a world where anything is possible, nothing is a lie, we are all but slaves to sensation and that all boils down to a matter of preference. One of my best friends just got accepted into Baylor University[to those who dont know Baylor stand at the forefront of all medical technology and sciences] and is doing research in the neuroscience field, over the corse of 5 years he has went from what he thought he wanted to where he is now all in search of the question, Why are we here and what are we . Hes been through Psychology, Anatomy, and now neuroscience. Everytime we visit the conversations are very enlightening and I baffle him with my understanding and ability to relate and open his eyes to my own unschooled observations in a degree you cant get from college. He feels that the brain cuases organically everything that we experience that we call spiritual or metaphysical. I tell him man that to understand such a thing with your lab experements will not lead you any closer to the true essence of the thing witch we call metaphysical and he calls sub atomic.

Yes you can use a certain tool to complete a job to a certain extent to broaden your knowledge upon something that is totally not of the same element you are applying to understand it.However it is like using a phillips screwdriver to loosen a flattip screw. I say this and it baffles him and all his school taught and bought education witch is no way a waste for it initself is knowledge and power but he wants to use this knowledge to attain spirituality and what I call the supernature of the universe and i say you cant do it that way because thats what it is, you cant cut a piece of it off with your scalpel and disect and inject and observe with your man made tools you must use its tools and element to understand it better.

From a science standpoint he believes that everything we know is all that exixist so far and I always disagree I tell him what if all that we know and we think is real and encompasses our reality is nothing compared to the knowledge that awaits beyond human comprehension. In that case all that we know and feel is so powerful and great may just be like a pissant in his world thinking and feeling its bigger than all else because thats all he knows.

My point? My equation is the best way I have seen to become more than we are and grow or evolve is to remain dynamic and adjust on the fly to whatever comes our way so that one day we might achieve the enlightenment that will cease our questioning of why we are here to what we really want to do with what we have.

To help create a paradise of sorts for future generations. In other words, be good stewards to creation, and everything in it. The point is to help our species evolve into something better, and once we have evolved, all one must do is maintain, and enjoy life to the fullest.

Our purpose is to help usher in this new erra of civilization,

In my opinion, anyway...

My friend, being a father, believes that we exist simply to create more life. Basically the point of life is to create life, or so he believes anyway, me.... i believe it's different for everyone, like everyone has their own destiny,, not "god has a plan for us all" cuz it's up to you to find out your purpose in life. Forge your own destiny, write your own story, but only you can decide how that story ends.

hmmm I dont see why enjoying what we have made or created to advance our own self and enjoyment makes us stupider but perhaps it is affecting you since stupider is not a word and more stupid is correct No offense but i think the people that become stupider and lazier choose to do so...but its not a by product of what we have created and how far we have advanced. Its a shame how people fail to appreciate what others have striven hard to achieve. Self respect, is a good first step to not becoming stupider or lazier.

"The planet will be here for a long, long, LONG time after we're gone, and it will heal itself, it will cleanse itself, 'cause that's what it does. It's a self-correcting system. The air and the water will recover, the earth will be renewed, and if it's true that plastic is not degradable, well, the planet will simply incorporate plastic into a new pardigm: the earth plus plastic. The earth doesn't share our prejudice towards plastic. Plastic came out of the earth. The earth probably sees plastic as just another one of its children. Could be the only reason the earth allowed us to be spawned from it in the first place. It wanted plastic for itself. Didn't know how to make it. Needed us. Could be the answer to our age-old egocentric philosophical question, 'Why are we here?' Plastic...asshole." —George Carlin

Hey man,

I'm pasting something I wrote in another thread but I like it and wanted to share with all you cool cats with long cool hair.

As for Jesus being the son of god, in my humble opinion, I think everyone is a son/daughter of our creator (God, I don't know, whatever.), If you make all the right choices in your life (anything that makes your life better or pan out the way you want it to) you will be more Godlike.

Moses had a moment with divine intervention or perhaps with a space alien.

Jesus, I think, visualized what he was going to do or met with aliens. He made all the right choices to accomplish his goal. Over the past 2000, and before, there have been bunches of sons and daughters of our creator. You my friend, American Terrorist, are a son of God. Praise the creator.

What's it all about? It's about love, baby! Bein' happy, laughing, smokin' doobies, love and sex and fuckin'. So don't worry.

I am far from stupid thank you but I am a little lazy too when it comes to using my brain and I think that is a bad thing. The reason I think this is because they took some kids from this era and put them in a school set in the 1960's and they didn't do very well at all.So this tells me that our kids are not as bright as they used to be or the schools have decided to make education and exams a damn sight easier.

. I think the point of this life is nothing. There is no purpose, I think people would just like to think that there is something more. Something special, a reason for living. There isn't. This life is about nothing. You get one chance to live a life you choose too and when you die it is just like before you where born....nothing.
I for one have tryed many times to discover God. I was never convinced and the whole religion thing is a bit far fetched. A member heree just posted something the other day that hit me nice and brought back some great past teachings. Thanks

carbouretta, so i had to re-fuck-u-late it. Then i stopped off at the space gas station and an Alien came and filled up the car, then i said, "Do you know where to pick around up here" He said nothing. Just handed me some of this weed, although what i didnt know was it was SPACE WEED. It's the best.

The point of life? Errr, The point of life is to observe it as a gift and not a right. Then wonder why you would recieve such a gift. Then as some children do, throw away the content of the package (the gift) and then play with the wrapping (cosmetics). That is the point of life; to leave childlike behavior (being obsessed with the outside wrapping [2d]) behind and become acquainted with what is in the package (the gift[3d]).

But nobody cares, that is why the only point to life is to go school, get laid, get a job, get house, have children, die and do all to the best of your ability. Yeah Right!?!?! All that does is put the gift on the mantlepiece with other useless dusty trinkets; to look nice or whatever.

I dont know why we are here, and I dont even care one bit. I wanna know what happens when we die, and noone will ever be able to tell us becuase noone is going to die, and than come back to life a year later, like hey guys! bein dead was great...here is what it's like...i think when you die that it's exactly like it is when your living, but with dead people...like you will still go to school, and go to work, and go smoke, except youll be dead, it's like a whole world up in heavin or some shit and your pretty much liviing the same life.

Or when you die, you go to the place that you loved the most when you were alive, or the perfect paradise for you, that could be where you go when you die. It's wierd how weed can explain pretty much anything you dont know when your sober...prolly becuase you make up such a stupid explanation becuase ur so stoned that you think that it makes sense.

WhO kNoWs??
