I have a glass pipe and I have never ever cleaned it before, let alone any pipe. Whats the best way?

Well, what i do when i clean my pipe is i first get a paperclip and some other random scraping toools and scrape all the resin out of my pipe via the carb hole mostly, then i save the resin or smoke it. Then i put the pipe in a salt and alcohol mixture which desolves all of the remaining resin off of the pipe. This will make your pipe loook BRAND NEW...Some people also like to biol the water instead of using salt and alcohol, but i think that it smells to much and is not as simple as Salt and alcohol

it acts like sand paper inside your pipe. i get a "sandwich" baggie and cover my piece in salt, then cover it with rubbing alcohal, shake and bake dude, shake and bake

Yup 91% rubbing alcohal and Kosher salt is the best thing I have ever used to scrub my pipes. I don't use anyting metel on them the glass breaks easy but the brushes from the fish store work just fine. Pipe cleaners work well too, yes they have a small amount of metal in them but as a rule I try not to scratch the glass with them.

Good advice in this thread I hope everyone learns someting. :)

420 works great, but it costs a lot more than rubbing alcohol and salt, which does just as good a job.

So can I grab a ziploc bag, pour in enough rubbing alcohol so the pipe drowns in it completely, then add salt, then finally add the pipe in to the mixture? It should work?

If yes, for how long should I keep it in there? (approximately)

Should I shake it around some or does it not matter much?

Man, just do all of this over the sink. Pour some alcohol through pipe, then fill the pipe up with salt, the pour some more alcohol in it alowing the salt to soak up the alcohol, plug the holes with you fingers, shake that fucker, flush with water, repeat as needed.

sigh...
step 1: get 91% rubbing alcohol, a plastic ziplock baggie (not too big, not too small... use common sense here), and kosher salt.

step 2: put the pipe in the baggie, put approximately 2 tablespoons of salt in the baggie

step 3: pour enough rubbing alcohol in the baggie to cover the pipe

step 4: zip the baggie so its closed

step 5: shake the baggie untill the resin is visably dissolving. (depending on how much resin is in the pipe youll have to shake the bag for up to a half hour. if it takes longer than this youll need to soak the pipe over night in rubbing alcohol, then get some pipe cleaners and use them to get the remainder of the resin out.)

step 6: rinse the pipe out with water
