made the switch from dirt, right past hydro to enviroponic growing. by that I mean aeroponics combined with hydro. just started first set of girls about ten days back. having a couple of issues though. went through some sort of apparent bug problem, as the leaves look munched. i treated it and seem to be gaining the upper hand. now i have leavescurling down strongly and new growth is contorting. two different strains, similar problem. I am going to my room to take pics of both the bug damage and the latter problem. so far what i have done to address leaf prob is to wake up and buy nute and ph meters. it also dawned on me that the super calcified water we have here was not good start so I import water. the dif went from starting at 360 ppm to 12 ppm, much purer. now i have aimed for 1200 ppm with GH products and 5.8 to 6.3 ph in both the fogger and drip lines. the fogger runs 3 min on 3 min on and the hydro stream system at a 8 min on and 12 min off cycle. about to read up on the problem after I upload the pics. please let me know if you are certain of your advice, no disrespect to any, but i am to invested too much to try trial and error too much. much thanks for any expert advice.

Leaves curling down with brown leaftips?

The root's are not getting enough oxigen, give more water through the fogger and a lot less with the stream hydro system. Those ppm's don't ring a bell with me, I always work with EC values.

these are the pics, with a couple of root zone pics for no extra charge.

Your giving WAY to much water.. look at the roots they should be a lot bigger than that.. loose the water flow and try only using the fogger... maybe that will help.. you've got te be sure you got enough oxigen with the roots.. it can't be too wet..

britewire, did you note that they are ten days old? how much more roots can you get in ten days, not to mention the root ball inside the pot that you cant see? don't mean to offend, but I must heartily disagree about the roots. they are healthy and will explode over the next week. I will show more picture then to make the point.

Anyway, that does not explain the contorting new growth, and there is not brown on tips or anywhere. How much water are you recomending, how often and how long of a pump cycle? What is your source of info?

omg source of info? just experiance.

I recommend lowering the water cycli and see how the roots develope with differant amounts of water.. try shutting down the hydro cycle for a day or 2

one week veg from clone.. look at the roots.

nice start for a week.

if you will click on my pic to enlarge, you will see that my roots are 3 to 10 inches outside of the growing medium, which in this case is two 5 inch post stuck end to end with about 10 times the area that your pic shows and there is an equally health rootball inside. these few poking out into the fog enviroment are tap roots. anyway wait till I show you new pics next sunday.

where are you from brite, netherlands ... germany?

can't wait...

I'm new to deep water cultures and stuff like that but I've got a lot of experiance on mapito (rockwoolflakes) slabs, and soil.

read some of your other posts, see that you are from netherlands. love to be a guest in your homeland someday. thanks for the responses.

ANYONE ELSE HAVE AN IDEA ABOUT THE CONTORTING NEW LEAF GROWTH

your ppm are a little high for only 10 day's old.

What is the humidity?

thanks for your thought on ppm, will research it more. on the same note, to answer britewire ppm is an expression derived from TDS (Total Disolved Solids) or EC. here is a pic of my meters.

TO ALL, THANKS FOR YOUR CONSIDERATION OF MY QUANDRY.

i believe i have solved the problem. HALLELUJAH! my water is high in calcite as i mentioned. this combines with the P nute to form calcium phosphate thus making the P immobile. lack of P causes exactly what i described: curling and contorting with dark splotches. here is where i found the info to base my theory on. sources are important, as i do not know where the over-watering advice came from. the following excerpt is from:
http://soil.scijournals.org/cgi/content/full/63/5/1167

The chemical speciation data showed that the P solutions' concentrations in different treatments were saturated with respect to Caâ??phosphate minerals. Calcium was predicted to complex the most P in the CaCO3 and clayâ??CaCO3 samples. This shows that formation of calcium phosphate is the main mechanism immobilizing the soluble P in calcareous systems. In the pure CaCO3 sample, in a 24-h sorption period the solution P is largely depleted by formation of Caâ??phosphate precipitates. SOILCHEM predicted that only 2% of the total P would remain available as a soluble complex of K, Na, and H (Sposito and Coves, 1995), while 80% of Ca would remain in solution as free ions.

this info really hits the problem on the head. i even found the signs of reddening of stems as a P deficiency indicator. at the risk of arrogance, may i suggest further reading of my moto below, seems to hit it on the head also.

Hope you have a good time when you visit the netherlands one day and be carefull when people offer you the dutch speciality(killer weed with icolator core with hasijsh oil on the paper - joint)..

is it crazy that you can read that?

hey britewire, looks like a phat mix of my honey oil and cold-pressed hash. that shit chokes the hell out of me, but the rubberband feel around my head is worth the lack of oxygen for a few seconds.
