How many people who smoke Ciggaretes started smoking for social reasons? Lots of people smoke just becuase that way they won't feel alienated when everyone else goes out for a smoke break (be it at work or at school). Smoking is a disgusting habit and its a real sad fact that most people smoke in order to feel acepted by their peers. Its not necesary peer preasure, but more of a social dysfunction!

I started smoking because my friend said if you smoke one fast it'll give you a head buzz (I was like 10). I kept smoking because when I drank it helped even out the buzz (junior high into high school). i stopped smoking and started dipping snuff because it made playing football and wrestling a lot easier on my lungs. I started smoking again because the place I worked for wouldn't let you dip except on your 15 min break outside, and 15 mins is just not enough time to dip. I still smoke because I'm addicted. I really really wish I had never started :(

If you don't smoke, DON'T START!

I think at a certain point in their lives people become aware of who they really are or want to be and stop relying on feedback from peers to make decisions...it's called maturity. The problem is at that age, most people have been smoking for years anyway. I agree with you all saying it's a discusting habit, but b/c it's so accessable and teh government makes a shitload off all the taxes, tobacco will always be there and people will continue to become addicted before they know it.

I've smoked ciggarettes for 10 years now and so> wish I never took it up. My solution to the problem is an obvious one...make tobacco illegal and legalise weed. That way, the government still gets it's money and everyone's happy....well except for the ciggy smokers...but to be honest, I only smoke cigarettes when I've no weed, so yeah there's my two cents worth..

great honest post, stella

I honestly don't remember why I started smoking for the short period that I did, but I guess I would have to blame my curiousity. At one point I just wanted to try one, and once I did, I liked the buzz it gave me, so I had another and another. This wasn't too long ago either, and for the longest tim I was the only one who didn't smoke, even to the point of refusing many cigs just to get me to try them. I smoked them kind of heavily from Dec-mid march and decided I had to stop for soccer. I will probably buy a pack sometime in Nov after soccer just because one is great after a session, and it won't be more than one. I really don't plan on smoking more than in a social setting, because sometimes it is a great way to bond with some people, or just actually calm some nerves every once and a while. That's MY :twocents: Later !

Yea, now that I think about it, I did a lot of stupid shit in high school and that's when I started a lot of my current habbits and interests. I'm sure that if weed was leagle to buy instead of cigs, I wouldnt have started the nasty habbit. Who'd need to when i could munch a brownie and chill. :rasta:

Once I took a drag from a ciggarrette, fucking HATED it. I had smoked weed plenty of times before my first drag and damn was I dissapointed. I didn't think it would be THAT bad. I hit it just as I would hit some weed, I didn't know any better. And I hated how badly it hurt my lungs, it was so harsh, tasted like shit, and I don't remember feeling any "buzz" but if I wanted a buzz I'd rather just take a hit of sweet ol' ganja.

I don't mind cigars though, they're atleast flavored and your not supposed to inhale them so its not nearly as bad with the health risks, although it can mess up your mouth, but I wouldn't smoke them often.

Making tobacco illegal would not decrease the number of people smoking it. Potheads should know better than that. If tobacco were illegal, it would just shift the whole industry to the black market, the prison population would explode from half the population being caught with illegal cigarettes, and teenagers would have an even easier time getting their hands on them (drug dealers don't ID...).

Smoking tobacco is a personal decision. I've never done it myself, but if other people feel like giving themselves cancer it's none of my business. If you decide to continue smoking and don't make any efforts to quit, you have no right to complain about how horrible it is, or to insist that nobody should be allowed to do what you're doing.

I don't think smoking tobacco is very intelligent or safe. I do think smoking tobacco is deadly and disgusting.

I smoked on and off in high school because my friends did. There was never any peer pressure, I just wanted to try it because everyone else seemed to enjoy it. I'll still have one every once in a while. Seeing how addicted my friends are is enough motivation for me to keep it to just once in a while.

Hate to say this but in certain situations its a very pleasent group activity. Relaxing around a cafe, shooting the breeze, and smoking all go hand in hand
