I was thinking that using a generator would be a good way to make sure you dont get reported by the electric company.

the electric company makes their money by selling electricity, ... I think (and this is only MY opinion), that the "electric company snitching off growers" stories are pretty much internet urban myth ... yes, electrical use records have been used to gather evidence, but I just have trouble believing it is widespread, friends at the electric company tell me it just ain't so ... but, use your own judgement ... a lot of growers are needlessly worried about it, though, depends how much juice you're gonna pull down ... if you suddenly pull an extra ten kilowatts a day, theyre gonna send out a repairman to see if your meter is defective ... most people these days leave TV on around the clock (600 watts or so), and usually more than one TV, microwave 1400 watts, you see where I'm going with this ... unless you're really talking MASSIVE electricity use, I wouldn't worry about it, ... the grower's big mouth, and odor, are the two most likely problems, with the 'big mouth' in 1st place by a mile ... generator? ... gasoline prices will kill you, much cheaper to buy weed on the street, and the noise from generator will have the neighbors down on you ... good luck ... :smokin:

I see what you mean and your post has helped ease my worry. Thank you.
But you are wrong about the gasoline price killing me. I figured it would be $300 a month for gas, but at $300 an ounce it still makes sense to do it. For me at least...

your electric company does not care what you use. just don't steal the electricity. the most common way for the police to get a warrant is when they discover someone is stealing electricity. i currently have one grow that is five thousand watts in the flower room, with ac, and about twelve hundred watts in a veg room. my utilities rarely exceed four hundred and fifty a month. oh, its hydro. one thing to consider, when running a large flower room, do your on light cycle from say seven pm to seven am. when a meter reader comes around they will never see the meter spinning very fast, and won't even think twice about it.

wow thanks redneck1. Another nice post to ease my mind.
I have 3 400w HPS, 1 250w HPS, and 1 400w MH on the way... The only issue now is making sure my grow room can handle all the power consumption.

depending on what type of house you have, flat roof or pitched room, it would be much safer to run a sub panel to your roof. my sub panel is a hundred amp. i have everything that has to do with my grow connected to my sub panel. that includes all fans, carbon scrubber, hydro, timers, and ballasts. for me its much easier to disconnect my panel and roll the flex tubing on the walls up and move the whole thing to a new location. the only difficult part is pulling the main wire feed back through. for the size lights your talking about, a fifty amp panel would be plenty.

that should be to your room, not your roof.
