Amtrak security

I'm taking a trip on a amtrak train very soon and I have no clue what the security is like since I normally fly. Would it be best to put the stash on my person or put it in checced baggage?? Does anyone know if checced baggage goes through a metal dectector or and X-ray?? If this has already been discussed just post the url and I'll go look myself....Thanks in advance
