I believe we cannot make pot legal through politics. what we need to do is educate the USA. What we need is the help from the media. Americans watch more TV then any other nation therefore for every ad against marijuana there needs to be 2 in its place promoting marijuana. American needs to know how it cures cancer, cures Asama, and doesnt destroy any brain cells. AMERICAN NEEDS TO BE EDUCATED and then pot will be legal

curing cancer...well I dont know about curing it but yea I get your whole Idea thing is its way too difficult to put something on the tv to promote it because of the censors and all that whatnot... as long as they can keep America believing its lies then it will never get to be legal its going to take an ASS Load of people to rally up and sign petitions and stuff like that I do my part everyday by handing out little pamplets that tell the REAL information about marijuana and its many uses and the products that can be made from it always sitting down with people and talking about it...hell got my grandmother smoking it...there are strength in numbers.....

Exactly. Voting has never brought freedom. The government will only give us as much freedom as it needs to keep us from revolting. Voting didn't oust the British monarchy, voting didn't end slavery, voting didn't end Prohibition, and voting didn't bring civil rights. All those things were accomplished in the streets by regular people putting pressure on the system until it caved to their demands. If weed is ever going to be legalized, it's not going to be by voting the right people into power. Remember, Jimmy Carter wanted to decriminalize it, but voting for him didn't get the job done. We need a concentrated movement centered around educating the public and carrying out civil disobedience. Imagine if all the pot smokers were as vocal as those fighting for civil rights were. Imagine if nobody was afraid to hit the bong in public anymore. It would be legalized in an instant.

how can it be legal to have anti pot commercials but not pro-pot commercials? we need to start pressuring the media kick up a stir, its absolutely ridiculous that they've got pot by the balls without even letting it defend itself

I really don't think that the public mainstream really knows how rediculous the laws have become on marijuana. We all seem to agree that the tv is the biggest way to spread the word so imagine this; in our own communities, when a person is given a sentance like that of Randy Brush (3 yrs for growing 4 plants) that a protest is held outside the courthouse. Make it legal with the permits, etc...and THEN it would attract attention...News media!
You get enough "News at 6:00" showing some poor cancer patient getting incarcerated for years just for growing weed and this will hit the heart strings of 90% of the people. Disappointment and sympathy gradually turns into anger which leads to more of the anti-marijuana people having a change of heart.
Civil disobedience will only follow with a "I told you so" from the anti groups....remember the past because this is part of the mind set that we have to overcome! Gandhi faced larger obsticles and accomplished his mission.

Good question. Maybe it's going to help fund campaigns for sympathetic politicians? funding studies to prove legitimate uses of cannabis? Start co-ops in MM states? Fund pro-cannabis org's like NORML and ASA?

It's about time we started really making a move. I think that not only do we need to start using the main stream media more often, but i think person to person contact is still much more influential.
So if you have a chance to calmly and resonably discuss the intolerance of laws and downright slanderous common beliefs around marijauna, then do it. If you know them well or not, it might at least give them a new perspective.
Maybe like a pay it forward kind of thing.

Your right...where I used to stay silent and/or agree to keep my secret..I speak out more now..one reason I started coming here to learn..because the people I speak with..when they ask a question..its for a good reason, not just to hear theirselves talk,so had to try and learn what facts are known about MJ and personal experiences. Its one thing to talk with people that have at least tried MJ but so different trying to show a positive viewpoint on MJ when some have not even tried it...they just say its illegal and harmful.

It takes alot of money to rent a Senator right..and even Howard Stern is censored now...I doubt any station would even quote air time for a 30 second spot on legalizing MJ...it is still illegal by Federal Law even in the 11 states that have passed pro MJ Laws for medical patients...and airtime is regulated by the Feds I think.

You can always write to newpapers. They write about drugs at least once a week... they aren't regulated, except by the editor... or print out flyer and pass them out... Look around online for polls and news about marijuana to keep yourself educated. Getting the word out isn't hard, it's getting people motivated enough to do something about it...
Write your Senator and Rep everyday... just take 2 minutes to email them... they'll get sick of it and notice.
Put on a march... the Global Marijuana March is May 8th, march with millions of others - it'll make a larger impact.
PS. If you'd like I have made a flyer for both passing out and for the march... feel free to use them so you don't even have to make them. Just print one and make copies and pass them out or hang them on light posts. I go out in the middle of the night a lot and post them up all over the place... you don't have to be afraid that way, But I suggest going out infront of people... let them see you and talk to them about it.

...Now that is constructive advice!! I have started speaking very carefully in public about the benefits of MJ..so far only one has looked at me like she wanted to kill me:) I haven't even thought of writing to the papers..I will have to take the time and word it right but I will do that one...I already email our Senators and Representatives but about other issues so I would be willing to do it on a regular basis but need more information and then summarize it..but that is doable....About the March in May..I thought it was on the 6th? I have been making plans for the 6th:o I really enjoyed your post..thank you for the time and effort to post some realistic ideas. Your right about motivation..I am guilty of procrastinating sometimes myself..but when I do get motivated..I will give my best. Is that link for the flyer? Or do I need to give you an address to send a sample? I would appreciate one to make some copies. Are you going to march?

yes sorry, the link is for the flyer... and it is the 6th.... i get it confused with the DEA one... I plan on marching in Gainesville, I am the one putting it on... but I would really like to go to Canada for the DEA thing... it looks like it's going to be huge. And if I go there I will not be able to march here...
http://stores.ebay.com/PRINTINUS-COM <--- he printed my flyers and they are great... they were $.03 each but I got them on green paper... so $.02 for white paper. Just think instead of smoking an eigth you could get 2,000 - 2,500 flyers...
http://stores.ebay.com/Rekey-Designs <--- this guy made me the braclets like the livestrong ones... they were about $1 each and look great... he even has pot leaves that go on them.
http://gallery.marihemp.com/mmm <--- a list of other flyers and what not

http://www.congress.org/congressorg/home/ <--- forgot this one... it tells you when and how your senator and reps vote for each bill...
and another little thing I like to do is plant the seeds I get with my pot and plant them in something... then when they get to the second node go plant them in the middle of the woods... part of Marc Emery's overgrow idea...
http://pot.tv/archive/series/pottvseries-12-0.html <--- reminds me, watch some stuff from High Society... David really helps to put protest in perspective

That is a good flyer..5 things you don't know about MJ...I like that one. DEA as in Drug enforcement? Well I won't know if I don't ask..and if you put DEA in google that is what I get..:) I am planning on going to CA and marching..It sounds selfish I know but I want to experience "freedom" like they have in CA..I wonder how many people are going to march this year..do you think it will be in the thousands? I hope so..anyway..thank you again for all the information and ideas.

the DEA is going to Canada where they are protesting... and there's gonna be MILLIONS marching ;) I would be happy if each city had 1000... that 200,000 people marching... not bad... but a million would be great... if people weren't so afriad to stand up for something there would be more than are marching right now. this link is the for the anti DEA rally

Thanks for the link to cannabisculture. The one in Canada you were talking about on May 8th..there are going to be LEOS speaking! For legalizing MJ! They sound like they have it together with the speakers they have lined up..impressive. I am going to the one in LA..but take some pics if you go and post them okay? Will they have one again this year? Or only once a year? I am going to go back and read again about Canada..you guys are really good at supplying realistic information..I will have my cam with me when I go to march..I will post a few when I get back home. This may be old to some of you..but I want to drive to CA..feel the people..participate..it is like fulfilling a dream:) I want to drive my doodlebug with the top down singing ..are you going to san franciso..be sure to wear some flowers in your hair..haha I am going to do that. If anyone else is going in May ...maybe we could meet and march together.
