2 4 foot fluor. shop lights with 2 bulbs each will grow 3-4 short bushy fat plants...easy..just keep them short so the light penatraits down through them .

The most light power given off the bulb right in the middle and weakens some toward the ends. you can flower with them but you have to change bulbs.. cant member though ...cool white/warm white..its the one that givs off the red tint..switch all bulbs to that and lower the tubes as close to the grow tips as possible ..like 1/4 inch with a little fan at one end ... They will flower pretty well ...for the set up used just make sure they DO NOT GET ANY LIGHT IN THE 12 DARK HOURS
Yes, fluos are good for growing plants... CFL's are also very good, and more used than strip lights

Guess you have your answer and you don't need my help, good job everyone!! :)
You may also like to know; Cool bulbs (6500k) are best for seedling, cloning and vegetative growth. (4000k) Are best for general growth and flowering

I have always used flourescent tubes exclusively (I started indoor growing in 1978)... I presently use eight 40-watt tubes for my canopy lightsource (320 watts) ... while vegging, I use regular 'cool white' lamps, 6500K 'blue' ... when time to flower, I will switch out my tubes for 'GE Kitchen and Bath' tubes, 3000K 'red' ...
I prefer flourescents for the peace of mind they bring ... if I am delayed away from home, I dont have to wonder if my plants are burning, if the fan quit and burned my house down, or running my house A/C because of the extra heat from my grow room ... I do NOT get the huge colas sodium lamps produce ... SODIUM ROCKS ! ... but, I get very heavy budding, and presentable yields ... yield is the only difference, my Quality has been as good as any lightsource out there ...
I am presently building a CFL clone and seedstart box, to free my big cabinet up for only flowering ... P.S., I'm 'old-school' dirt farmer, while hydro is the cats-ass, I just never wanted to get that technical about it ...
P.S. off the subject ... I see lots of young people in here, and am aghast at their common lack of language skills ... guys, get an education ... when youre young and high, the world is your toy, BUT time runs out on ya ... soon, you will starve without work, and staying high isnt good for your career choices ... use, but don't abuse ... ( just my version of a Public Service Announcement, it's meant to be Positive ) ... :smokin:

these are my Cinderella99/Northern Lights cross 27 days from Seed ... these plants were 99% DEAD from Pythium Wilt, and recovered ... they are thriving now, but lost out on half their growth due to almost dying ... they will be fine ... ... :smokin:

in fact, just to show how well flourescents can work, these are the same plants only 12 days earlier, dying from Pythium Wilt ... the day after this picture was taken, they were all down, withered, lying on the soil, shriveled, brown, and looking dead ... I will say, these Cinderellas were touted to be almost indestructible, and they sure seem that way ... :smokin:

Yes you can grow with fluros all the way through .I had 2, 4 foot shop light's =160watts .Best bud i had in years and got 2 1/2 ounces dry (But also i had a 250hps in there too for 2 weeks of flowering but was only on for 2 houre's a day due to heat. but im pretty sure fluro's did all the work) 1 pic whole plant 4ft tall .2nd pic top cola .3rd pic just to show off tricomes

I grow under a combo of tube fluoros and cfls. I've got over 450 watts in the grow closet. I use those baby blue Phillips fluoros and the GE Kitchen and bath, like Image Reaper does. I'm in my 4 week of flowering of my second crop. The first crop was a little disappointing, but the seeds were between 10 and 20 years old! The fact that ANY of them grew is amazing. It was kind of a test run before I got my "good" seeds. I ended up with 2 males and 2 females. Because of various reasons, I harvested one of them several weeks too soon (a very slow sativa), but the smoke is still decent and sufficient for our needs. And Reaper, if you are ever over at TreatingYourself.com, give me a yell. I have the same handle there. We seem to have a fair amount in common (I just finished my clone/seedling cabinet, live in norcal, am aghast at the way kids use the language (I'm a teacher's aide/tutor!), got a nice little C-99 growing, but had bad luck with my NLF2s- all males, and I'm old enough to be most of these kids' granny). My hubby and I live on the side of a volcano. We are both legal mmj users. TY is a good medical site with lots (over 2,000) of good people. Consider this a friendly invite.

Hi All,
It makes sense now, I guess I was missing the 6500K 'blue' and other red type... Those were the keywords... Thanks all, you've been great.

It all makes sense... so you run 18hours of blue (6500K) for veg and when flowering, run 12hours of red (3000K) pretty much...
I'm also a fan for flourescents because of their practicality and cost effectiveness... but I searched around for anyone who had successfully grown anything with them, and got no positive results... its nice to actually make sure someone has...

I also have had success with using flouros for veg but recent switched to ceramic halide bulbs. You cant go wrong with the flouros for veg, they are widely available and put off low heat signatures. Make sure you keep them a few inches away and have fans blowing down the length of them! Good luck!

If you want to use compact flouros then go to home depot and get a few of those bathroom fixture strips, the ones that are a strip with 4-5 light fixtures on them, they work great!

or if you get a proper envirolite they are full spectrum bulbs and comes in 2 sizes and specs they come in 125w and 200w and come in a red spectrum for flowering and a blue spectrum for vegging
they need an e40 fitting tho
cheers all hope this helps :)

fuck the envirolites, i got one and it blew ass compared to what it costs. I ended up just throwing it in with my mothers. Stick with compact flouros, they are cheaper and you could modify it easier!

envirolites are good
they are working for me and a few other people i know that are growing with them
and they are well better than just cfls as they have a good 200w's to them
how many cfls would ya need to get in there to match that
then again its whateva ya can afford at the end of the day
cheers hope this helps :)
