Alcohol tolerance?

Well I was talkin to some one on MSN and he told me that a person cant develop a tolerance, he says it has to be in their generation...For example he says if people in my family never really drank that if I drank 2 to 6 shots for a whole year I wouldnt develop a need for more to get me the same drunkness that 2 to 6 shots gave me, is this guy bullshittin me? Lol, I really dont know cuz I never drank but I planned to and I wanted to know is this guy lying or what?
