Hey all :rasta:

I have a 4x2x5 space for growing. By my math {atm} thats 40 cf. I just bought this http://www.altgarden.com/site/climate/htmldocs/daytonfan.html

It was 99 bucks. Im wondering if there is a speed controller for this. Its pretty loud, and runs FAST. Plus I think its going to move more air than is needed for this small space.

Also I have this already http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=6042337215&category=43510

Its got an ionizer and also is rated for more than the CF of the room.

Do u guys think these two things are overkill for 8 plants in this space?
Also, I Just bought the squirlcage fan, I could return it. should I? Is there something better?

P.S. my planned setup is squirlcage fan at top, pulling air from the econo-cool light which in turn passivly pulls air from room. Hunter air ionizer mounted to wall. 8 pots on a ebb and flow tray, raised on a pvp platform. 400w switchable. hps and Mh. All this surrounded by Lightning 97% and a b/w poly zippered door.

Any comments Really appriciated. Im soaking all this knowledge up

hey bob...

somebody can probably answer this...
BUT.. I recently heard that many dayton fans dont work with speed controllers.. you may want to look into that...

and yes 465 CFMs is very likely over kill... unless you are gonna be blowing it 20+ feet with multiple turns in your ducting..

what are you usingg for lighting?

My dayton fan is the middle one rated at 265 cfm. was going to have it not blowing far. It will be pulling about 2 feet or less of tubing, and the 40 cf room.

Lighting is 400w econo-cool switchable ballast. hps and mh.

Hmm... no speed controller :{ mabye I should return it for something else. any suggestions?

p.s. thx for the responses :}

No, Daytons can not use a speed controller. You'll damage the motors.

At least, this is what I got from a BGHydro representative.

Fantech makes great fans...
ask the guy at the store about them working well with speed controller..

ask about noise and vibration at lower speeds...

Your grow space is very small .... a 265 cfm fan will only need to come on for 10-20 seconds every 5-10 minutes... you could also hookl up a temperature sensitive swtich as opposed to a speed controller..

Then your fan will come on only when it gets hot in the grow chamber.

GREAT IDEA. and thx about the confirmation of the daytons.

I found this at my shop i can buy. http://www.altgarden.com/site/climate/htmldocs/th15agthermo.html

But that brings the price up to about $170 for my dayton plus this temperture device.

For that price I could buy a can fan or small vortex.

Choices choices choices..... which would be better ya think. dayon and temp controller. or something with a speed controller.

Guess the main question is.. is it better to continously exaust air, or just only when it gets hot.
