YES, MY BALLAST GETS HOTTER THAN SHIT SOMETIMES,, AND STAYS KOOL OTHER TIMES. I JUST CHECKED IT,,, 98 DEGREES. THE OTHER DAY IT WAS 122 DEGREES. NOT SURE WHY THE DIFFERANCE.

If you READ his post, he would have said its a CONVERSION bulb, so he can run it!!!!!!!
OK i posted that before i read the 2 posts above this... so now this is wasted reply.
My ballast gets hot when i change the bulbs, i wouldnt worry unless it gets REALLY hot, then you'd wanna turn it off cos its a fire risk

Get it out of your closet. Only have the plants and bulb in the closet, that would keep everything a lot cooler....your ballast might not even get to hott then .....I set my ballast on a metal rack... I made up so it aint touching anything at all ...you can never be to safe what you have somthing to hide like growing. Mine is in a cabinet with no fan but i took mine apart, the out side shield off. All of it is only warm to the touch now....PLEASE get it out of the closet though....thats not even safe....peace

open up the ballast box and let it breath, the cooler it stays the longer they will last
