View Full Version : Cabinet, 1000W Hydro-DWC SCRoG White Widow

It has finally happened… Turtle has gone hydro!
After much delay (waaay too much, in fact!), it’s ON!
We’re growing two White Widow clones, from a known female plant. It’s inside a cabinet (which sits inside a closet), that measures 20inches by 40inches in its base, and 48inches tall. Because of height restrictions (and newb dreams of grandeour), we’re doing a SCRoG (Screen of Green). Inside the cab, we’re running two bulbs: a 400W MH, and a 600W HPS. Both of them, inside a cool tube (more or less “cool”).
For vegetative growth, we’ll be using only the Metal Halide… when 12/12 (flowering) comes around, we’ll run both MH and the High Pressure Sodium bulbs. That will give us a total of 1000W for the cabinet. I’m aiming at keeping the bulbs from 12 to 14 inches away from the screen.
For exhaust, we’ve got a 300CFM NuTone fan on the top of the cabinet, pulling air OUT. We’ve got a 4” dryer duct fan hooked up at the bottom of the cabinet, as a passive intake. The cabinet inside is Mylared all the way, except the bottom “floor”.
HYDRO setup::: I decided to go the simplest hydro route, and in my opinion, that’s DWC (Deep Water Culture). So, we’ve got one 5 gallon bucket per plant, two plants, and a third 5 gallon “reservoir” bucket”. All three buckets are interconnected, and a small pump is flowing the water through all three.
For the all important hydro readings, we’re running a Hanna meter… we can measure EC/TDS, ppm, pH, and the temperatures of the hydro solution. ( hope I got that right). Anyway, the Hanna meter has two probes, both of which have been located in the reservoir bucket.
Oxygen for the roots::: At the present, we’ve got only one dual-outlet aquarium air pump, running two air stones… one air stone per bucket. Future upgrades (ASAP) are a second air pump, with two more air stones… TOTALS: one air pump + two air stones for EACH bucket. That should give nice bubbles…
NUTRIENTS (“nutes”)::: We’ll be using General Hydroponics (GH) 3-part series nutrients… FloraGrow, FloraMicro, and FloraBloom. Also, GH pH up/down. For WATER we have a RO+DI (Reverse Osmosis + DeIonization) water filter.
NUTE ADDITIVES and STUFF::: We’ve got SuperTHRIVE (basically “a must”). Also, CalMag PLUS (with RO water, basically also “a must”). Later things, I think we have Bloom Booster or something like that…
….
Clones are looking great… they’re really growing during these hours. They’ve been in the hydro setup for aproximately 24 hours (actually, less), and their roots have JUMPED! I hope I see some equally impressive growth rates with the upper side of the plants.
Any and all inputs and suggestions are greatly welcomed…
Thanks for stopping by.

Wuhuuu!!!! Things to reply!!! :)
nice turtle..

: )
Yeah, made it my self. Got a couple of issues that need fixing (addition of another air pump, and installing bigger diameter hoses).
I plan on writing up a more-or-less how I did it.
Cost of buckets = I think it was $5 for a bucket and a lid. They're good, because they're thick plastic, reinforced at the bottom and top, light doesn't shine through them... and, again, $5. :)
Thanks for the post gK.

Thanks for posting CactusMan...
QUESTION for you: How do you... um... have "relationships" with women? Or do you find CactusWomen?
LOL!
I'm just kiddin' man... :)
I've been quiet because I've been time-less... not enough time to... to go into my beloved boards.cannabis.com
The charts are from a FAQ Zandor wrote up... I didn't make them. In any event, they're usefull information. Probably what gK recites every time he wakes up in the morning...

PROBLEMS???
I don't know... maybe....
Ok, I'm uploading some pics... three of them are of the biggest clone/plant, and the 4th one is of the second clone/plant.
Both plants have their leaves curling inwards... in a down-then-inward shape.
They're not dying... I can see that... but, maybe they can be in better shape???
There's a pic of a close-up of one of the leaves... the leaf is slightly "lighter colored" than the lower leaves...
Again guys, thanks for all the help. I realize that they ARE NOT dying, but, maybe I can get some pointers from the experienced? (And the inexperienced too!!!)
Latests HYDRO DATA:::
YESTERDAY @ 8:02PM

6.04 pH
Relative Humidity = 69%
Air Temperature = 86.2 Farenheit
....
I added some pH down, and before I left them, the pH "more or less" stabilized around 5.75
Other than that... that's it!
Thanks for stopping by everybody! :D

Couldnt Help Turtle but Stuff is looking nice:thumbsup:
I love ur setup its nice and neat, also it looks like u put some hard labor in making that perfect:upsidedow Again nice JOB  So how long are you veging for and where are those WW from?

Should I stay quite and let your learn or would you like an opinion on the future problems you may have? I could be wrong you are only in the first phase but......?
You're not going to finish with that foam plug like that are you?
How are you monitoring the temperature at the top of your canopy?
Nice closet too turtle it showes a lot of work on your part.

So how long are you veging for and where are those WW from?
Thanks Buk! :) It's GREAT to have you here man!
Vegetative... I'm thinking of giving them 4 weeks... anywhere from 3 to 4 weeks... but the real decision maker on that aspect will be how they're growing. If at 4 weeks, the SCRoG screen is still half empty, I'll keep them at veg. I don't know... let's see how it goes! :)
WW = White Widow ... they're from WeedFarmer.com... I was VERY pleased with them... I recommend them to everyone.
Should I stay quite and let your learn or would you like an opinion on the future problems you may have? I could be wrong you are only in the first phase but......?

Great approach Zandor... although "experience is the best teacher", I'll take your advice any time you put it out :)
Finishing with the foam plug::: Um... yeah... I thought.... I did think... I no longer think...
Why? Will the plug "choke" the plant? Or will the plant "rape" the plug?
I realize the plant has no net-cup, or "medium", but I thought that once the plant gets to the SCRoG screen, and I start "weaving"/training it into the screen, it'll support its own weight...
Thoughts on this? Or am I headed down Newbie Avenue? (full speed ahead? ;) )
.....CANOPY TEMPERATURE MONITORING......
Right now, I've got my thermometers' (digital) external probe hanging mid-air inside the cabinet. When I install the metal screen for the SCRoG, I'd like to place the thermometer somewhere that'll give good readings... some testing to be done.
<><><><>
Buk, Zandor,
Thanks for the closet cabinet props... :) It feels great to have people commend you on something   (<-- love this guy)
<><><>
SIDE-NOTE::: UPGRADES::::
1- bigger hoses for the mix return (at the bottom of the buckets)
2- two air pumps, and four air stones total
3- cover the water lines with aluminum foil... don't want no "stuff" growing there...
4- better fan for the cool tube (using a 50CFM fart fan right now... pushing air... ;)Z)
5- carbon air scrubber (I still haven't forgotten the other thread Z)
6- 1" screen attachment
That's it for now. :)
I'm very pleased to be posting here... as now, I'm Netless for the time being, and I miss the boards quite some... but it's good when you log in, and there's SHITLOADS of new stuff to read...
Thanks for everything guys (and girls), much peace and good chronic,

Learning is half the fun anyway.
Yes they will choke the stock and reduce the nutrient uptake at some point (soon)
Sure roots hanging will grow, but...........think about it for a second and it will come to you. Would the lack of a strong root base and support for the top of the plant reduce the over all size of the finished plant?
Why?

Hey Z,
I feel like I'm on the spotlight here, but it's all good man... Thanks for the help and time.
Let's see...

Why?
"Lack of a strong root base" will definitely hinder the plants' ability to be all it can be.
Ok, I hope I don't crash and burn too bad with my answer... but here it goes:::
If the root ball "base" isn't stress-free, it won't be able to have 100% nutrient "flow".
^^^
I can see roots danglin' and moving back-and-forth, but, maybe the root ball "base" needs to be "solid"???
Hahaha! LOL!
Thanks for this Z... I'm cracking for answers over here...
I'll try to re-log in ASAP... but as it is, I'm getting about 30 minutes of internet a day... and I can tell you, 28 of those minutes are spent on boards.cannabis.com .... the other 2 minutes?
Booting up... hehehe...
Best Regards Z,

PS: Side-note... I can still place the plants on some netpots... with some lava rocks...
PSS: The home-made "foam plugs" are made out of "Garden Kneeling Pad" material... straight from Home Depot

Hey Buk! :D
Time and labor... unknown man... unknown.
Cool tale: Man, the day I placed the clones into the cabinet, wuuuff... I stayed up until about 3am... then woke up at 7am to go to work... but I didn't care at all... I was sO happy that the system was up and running :) Burned the midnight oil on that one... but came out winning
Thanks for the comments Buk my friend... I must re-connect one day to play again... I've been Netless for some time now... :( Take care buddy, and stay tuned! ;)

I'm happy you found this... :D Let's see what comes out of that box within the next 90 days... Your SCRoG has been inspirational man...
If you can and it's not to late you may want to use that net pot and grow rocks.
Hey Z,
I can still place them... let's see... I've got some real net pots, that are 2" or 2.5" in diameter... too small?
Then I've got this ghetto 4" or 5" net pots, which I """fabricated""" from regular pots... I cut out the sides, and "net". Ugly looking contraptions. Never had to use them. But for giving scares to the crows...
I'll install them... tomorrow... I hope.
>>>>>>>>>
UPDATE: I installed the screen... 1" holes, per JustAseed's suggestions, and pictures...
The biggest plant hasn't been "trained" into the screen yet... not tall enough. The smaller plant... well, that one turned out REALLY like her mother... her mom was a "two headed" 'rose' from the beginning... and so is she... but even more so! She has 4 heads!!!
I thought her abnormal 4 heads where because of FIMing it... but I didn't have recollection of doing that to her... but now that it's grown, I can see that it's... TWO PAIRS OF SECONDARY GROWTHS!!! HAaha! that's it!
///....
I'm set to change the hydro mix tomorrow... when I get back my RO filter... the mix right now, has been in there for... um... 8 days today.
(FROM THE TOP OF MY MIND):::
5.9pH
1971 uS
930ppm
Something like that.
I added a little (like 1/4 strength) Dark Energy. On the bottle it states: It stinks, but it Rocks!
Got that right.
GOD ALL MIGHTY!!!
This is more stenchfull than... than... ufff! Horrendous!
But apparently, it rocks. Yes it does.
.......<><>......
I also added the second air pump... now we've got one air pump per 5 gallon bucket. Two air stones inside each bucket.
Makes for some nice bubbles-inside-buckets vibration....
............
In the next hydro mix, I'm going all crazy... small amounts, but...
RO water...
CalMag PLUS
GH 3-parts
Dark Energy (!!!)
Floralicious Plus
SuperTHRIVE (of course)
..... And, I think that's the hole plethora of stuff.... stuff... :) hmmm... stuff.
We've got some FulMag over there.... says it's for magnesium deficiencies problems... Wa?! I ain't got no problems!
<><>
That's it. [/RANT] Finish. Enjoy. Please comment, if you feel like it.
Best,
-turtle420

PS: I'm sorry for leaving the pictures out... I know I know... pictures are a MUST... but... well... I left the camera.... with the pictures inside... I know... sorry.... Zandor, yes... please remove 2,000 posts from my post count... I know that's the penalty.... :sadcrying

Plants so far:::
They seem to be growing super fast.
I changed the nutrient mix yesterday, and filled-up the buckets with RO water… ahhh… nice, pure water. Each 5 gallon bucket takes about 40 minutes to fill-up::: no kidding.
I added the GH 3-part nutrients, for week 2, vegetative stage.
+ CalMag PLUS
+ GH Floralicious Plus
+ Dark Energy
…. After a couple of hours, the pH was over at about 6.20 or something… so I added some pH DOWN… got to around 5.80
Plants are growing super fine. The little one, has the 4 grow shoots coming up full-steam ahead. Very interesting! Now I see why everybody claims that hydro grows are “astonishingly fast!”.
The big plant is fine… on her top, she has the main top, and two secondary growths that are coming strong. I’m planning on sending that top over to the far-side of the cabinet, and trying to fill up the screen towards the middle with the other secondary growths of the plant.
I need to make the carbon air scrubber work ASAP. Damn it…
Mother plant is doing good… shitloads of secondary grows… so tempting to make more clones… soooo… tempting… Anyways, the two soil clones are also doing super good. I didn’t water “on time” one of them, and it completely dropped it’s leaves… temperamental plants!
I watered thoroughly, both of the clones. After 1 hour, it hadn’t perked-up its leaves, so I removed it from the mother cabinet and pleaced her under a desktop fluorescent lamp… until the next morning. She woke up better, and has been re-installed in the mother cabinet since.
<><><>
I’m sorry that I’m ranting so much, but right now I’m writing off the net… so I’ll get to my internet connection, log-in, copy/paste for posting this, and out… I miss this place.
<><><>
In other news, I’m super eager to start flowering of these plants! And I’m also super eager to see how my 1st SCRoG does! I really hope I can get something *similar* to JustAseed’s SCRoGs. I’m planning on weaving the plants like there’s no tomorrow. WeeeavvveEEE!!! Or… TrrraaaAIIINNN!!!
My bud supply has run dangerously low… I’m on the verge of… of running out of weed! Darn it… I’m sure this ain’t going to happen once I’ve got my 1st harvest down. That’s going to kick-ass!
<><><>
Ok, I stop writing now. I realize this post is waaaay too long.
Best to all of you, and I promise pictures next time around,

Updates:
Girls are on their 19th day.
Growing super cool... I'm ejoying this very much. I already started to train the biggest plant into the screen... and less than 6 hours later, she already had bent her self in such a way as to receive as much light as possible. Amazing.
I've been keeping the pH around 5.80.... anybody have any suggestions for a better number?
I have a small problem with my hydro unit... and it's because of lazyness.
I still haven't installed bigger diameter hoses for the mix return... thus, slowly over time, the pump overflows one, or the other grow bucket. Which then spills 950ppm nutrient mix all over the inside of the cab... and the floor.
Anyway, my temporary fix has been to turn OFF the nutrient pump for 5 minutes, every hour. During those 5 minutes, all the buckets re-level their mix. After the OFF time, back ON for 55 minutes. (Gotta love those X10 timers.)
I plan on installing two more additional hoses into the buckets... hopefully that will provide enough return flow into the rez bucket.
I hope you guys enjoy the pics... :)
Take much care all of you, and god-speed-ahead,
-turtle420
.
SIDE-NOTE::: Yesterday, "playing" with my mother plants, I realized, my mother plant "miniaturized" herself! She doesn't have big leaves... they're all... um, small. She's healthy, green, and growing... but, small leaves... interesting...

Hey Blaze,
:) Thanks for posting!
The water level::: It's about 2-3 inches from the top of the buckets. I never run it completely full, because I've got a "flow" problem that will overflow one of my buckets and spill the nutrient mix to the floor.
Exposed roots::: About the same 2-3 inches of roots are exposed to the air. It varies, as when I fill the system, less roots get exposed. As the water level goes down, well, obviously more roots get exposed. Max exposure, I would place it around 3-4 inches. I'll get some root pics for you ;)
Frequency of refills::: Right now, no refills. The plants are still small, so they don't drain the mix that much. When the 7 days of the "nutrient mix life" are up, I change everything. We're going to have to wait two or three weeks to find out how much water must be added to keep proper levels.
Thanks for the comments on the system :D. If you want any detailed pics and/or help with anything, just holla.
Best to you BlazedIdo,

I noticed that the temp of your nutrient solution is in the 80's. Is this where it is supposed to be? What is the optimum temperature for the water, and does it change with the phases? Also, did you add all the nutrients for veg, flower and the micro at the same time? I was under the impression that you only added the floragrow for veg, and then the micro and bloom at the start of flowering? One more thing. If GH floralicous grow, and GH Floralicous bloom are used, is Foxfarm Big bloom and ok way to go for the micro? Sorry for all the questions, just trying to tie up some loose ends.

I just looked at the GH site and figured out the difference between their nutrients and supplements (a lot clearer now). So im guessing that the floralicous grow and bloom plus the foxfarm big bloom isn't going to be sufficient by itself. Also if grown from seed in DWC does starting the GH flora 3-series nutrients at half the recommended clone level plus the floralicous grow at half its recommended level once I hit the 4th set of true leaves sound about right. Should anything be added to the RO water to make up for lost minerals? PH is 5.6 (no TDS yet, will have when nutes are added). This information took me a while to compile, so I was just runnin ii by you guys to make sure it was all up to parr.

Yes... this is true... but I'm working on it. I plan on doing the "cheap rez cooler" thing... a small PC fan on a 90degree PVC elbow, blowing air into your rez. Supposedly, this will work wonders...
Let's see if I can do it during this weekend.

Blaze, I don't have the experience to tell you if it'll work or not (the FoxFarm)... right now, this is my 1st grow... I'm just following directions and suggestions. :)
I've found that it's better to underfert your plants, than to risk over fertilizing them. I still haven't had such luck and overferted one of my girls... althought I was close... very close... two or three fan leaves are SUPER dark green (signs of overfert).
RO water... definitely, you need to add CalMag PLUS. The RO process removes, basically, everything. You need to add those trace minerals back. CalMag PLUS
The pH of 5.6 sounds good... :) I'm keeping it around 5.80 or something like that... there's a nifty chart in the FAQs, and on the second post of this thread. Save it if you can to your computer.
oh yea, and i've been meaning to ask if its safe to post this kind of stuff here?
Well, it's all relative. Safe compared to.... ???....
Much of the safety depends on yourself. Don't do dumb stuff online. Don't say where you're from. Don't give out your addy. Don't post your Yahoo!, gMail, Hotmail, etc. eMail addresses. Post your HushMail address only (or the equivalent). Whenever you're communicating or something, use different eMails for each case... don't use your same hushmail addy for eBay, as, you'll be linking both your real name/addy with that hushmail addy.
Is it possible that the feds, FBI, NSA, etc. are getting all this, and following people? Well, yes.
But, you got to put it in context... I don't think they'll go after two plants inside a closet. Maybe a 550 plant grow... but two plants? A newb? Couple of ounces? I don't think they're so much inclined.
That's it, basically for safety. :)
Peace out gK and bIdo,

Hello again, :D
Almost forgot...
My clones... the clones I got for my new mother plants... one of them has heavily wilted. I didn't water yesterday, when I should have (didn't open the mother cab).
Here's my QUESTION:::
What ferts should I be giving them?
I'm using Schlutz Cactus Juice, which is (if I remember right), 2-7-7. I don't want her to want to flower. Should I use the bat guano I have? I think it's 11-2-3 or something like that. Ughhh... guano smell... ughh...
The situation is: They're mother plants. Want to keep them short and sweet. Maybe 3-4 cuttings every 1-2 months.
I'll give an update tomorrow on how this specific clone is doing... and I'll post a picture of the other one, as it's in better shape than the one you're seeing.
Thanks for the help, take much care everybody,

H202 telling you might save that dehydragnated one pour that on there like hella water and oxygen try save it. Zandor right you need bigger baskets for your roots. Your plants do not need P2O5 right now and giveing it to it will not make it bud it will only bud due to light cycle change 12/12

That reflective material is Mylar... not aluminum foil. I'm not worring much about hotspots created by Mylar... if any.
Here's the clear response on why Mylar is a better option than white paint:
http://boards.cannabis.com/showthread.php?t=37730
Well lets think about this a second. I use only Mylar 2 mil my self and here’s why.
One standard HPS bulb puts out 140,000 Lumens. If White paint reflects 86% light you only end up with 120,400 lumens reflected. Sidelight is as important as top light but all to much people forget it all together. You lose 19,600 lumens that is absorbed by the paint.
With Mylar you reflect back 98% of the light that hits it. So the same 140,000 lumens HPS light as before you only lose 2800 lumens so you get 137,200 lumens reflecting back. That’s like adding a 150w HPS light for free. If you have more lights like I do then it ads up even more. With 6 1000 watt HPS light and Mylar you get another 100,800 lumens of light just for using Mylar. That’s like the 7th light of 1000 watts is free.
That’s why you should use Mylar It’s all in the math.
As to the clear tubbing: Yes, you're right. I know. I covered it with aluminum foil (wow! Is this the foil you're reffering to?) to keep the light out. I'll try and get the the black tubing for the future...
Thanks for the props on the cabinet Krogith... thanks for posting. :)
Best to you,

Hmmm... thanks! I'll try that H2O2 thing... I'll do a search here to see what I come up with (recepies).
As to my plants needing "P2O5"? What? What's P2O5?

Turtle, What form does that calmag plus come in? I have seen it in pill form mostly. What kind and how much should be used per gallon of water?
Here's what I've got:
http://www.bghydro.com/BGH/itemdesc.asp?ic=NEGCM32&eq=&Tp=
I think that the CalMag you've seen in pill form, is supplements for the human body.... again, I think... was that from an eBay search?
I think there's a vitamin pill for humans on eBay... called CalMag.
But anyways, you've got your link.... that's the stuff we want for out plants.
I personally don't have any negative experiences from lack of those minerals, but before I started, I read long ago LateWood, Zandor, gK, etc. giving props to CalMag PLUS.... so, I'll take their word for it without hesitation.
CONCENTRATIONS: I don't have the bottle with me, but I really don't have an idea how much is it. I don't remember. I just follow directions. It isn't that much per gallon... but I don't remember. I'll have that number for you later... :)
Take much care bIdo,

Things are running pretty much Ok... Very fun growing!
I'm uploading some pictures...
1st one is just for you...
2nd one is an "after-training" picture of the right hand side plant. A couple of branches are "weaved"/trainned into the the screen, but others are just tied down with some twine/string.
3rd picture is an overview of the setup. I'm itching to hook-up an a/c unit into that cabinet... I just can't stop it... it's just, like... obvious. a/c... cabinet... cabinet... a/c... a/c + cabinet... cabinet + a/c...

Turtle, can you post how you made the water in your reservoirs flow into each other. Just basically how is it setup and what kind of pumps you are using?
Hey BlazeIdo,
Man, I'm just going to post... because I haven't done shit with the pictures I wanted to upload... with water flow diagrams and stuff...
Anyways, here's a good (I hope!) explanation:
The middle bucket is the "rez" bucket. pH sensors and water pump are in there.
Water pump goes out of middle bucket on top, and divides on a T.
One hose goes to the top of left bucket, other to the right bucket.
The mix goes into the buckets, mixes some more, and circulates through the lower hoses back into the middle bucket.
A small cycle.
There are airstones in all buckets... two air pumps in total.
If you're going to try something similar, I would suggest you place 3 or 4 hoses at the bottom, to work as returns. Or much simpler and elegant would be to place one bigger diameter (1" or 2") hose connecting the side buckets to the middle bucket.
The pump I have is a small $30 Home Depot 180GPH pump... but it flows pretty good.
<><><>
Dude, bIdo... does this help? Questions? Comments? Ideas?
Go for it dude!! Build your own... with your own modifications... shitloads of fun! I promise.

No problems with the explanation dude... glad to be of service :)
Initially, I thought that the triangular pattern for the buckets would be the way to go... but, then I ran into what you're mentioning; the cabinet wasn't deep enough.
But yeah, the triangular layout for the buckets would be better.... I would think.
As to the SCRoGing over the rez bucket: Hell Yeah!

Too much money man... too much... of there is such a thing.
I can't tell you a solid number, because there's stuff that I've bought, and I don't use... stuff that I use, but isn't on the pics... etc.
But, from the cabinet, a ROUGH estimate... would... be.... eee..... $1,500????
Now, that was a 20-second thought estimate... so, take it lightly. I'm sure you can do it for less... and I'm sure there's a superhero out there that "can do it" for $80... fine...
Anyways man, hope that helps! :)

Turtle, how are you running your AC in your cab? Is it mounted into it? Do window air conditioners need to be mounted intbetween to areas (for instance the outside and the room its cooling) to work, or can they just run and cool air sitting in a room. Ive been brainstorming AC's for cabs and I was thinking if the cab was big enough, one of those window AC's could just be installed into the bottom back corner? Would this negatively affect the air for the plants? and would this be considered a good air intake? Peace

Hey bIdo...
I still haven't installed the a/c unit into my cab... but my setup is going to be different...
I ain't installing the a/c unit "in" the cabinet... I'm leaving it right where it is... in the wall, under the windows. But I'm going to build a box around it... and use fart fans to move air between the a/c box and the cabinet... connect everything with dryer ducts.
As to how to run an a/c in a grow operation... you could turn ON the a/c to cool the entire room, then just have your cab's air intake in to room.
But I would do it: Have the a/c cooling only the cabinet. Closed air circuit... that way, your a/c unit doesn't have too cool *everything* in the room. Which will include loses due to "heat", sunlight, walls, your ballasts... the air coming out of the cool tube (pretty warm)... your computer... your blunts.... etc.
You can do it any which way you like... I'm gonna do the closed-circuit thing I mentioned.
As to the a/c unit at the back of the cab... well, um, yeah... I guess it works. Just, give it more thought... if the looks like it, build it. :D
That's the best way, really...
Peace to you bIdo...

Hello guys...
Just posting some pictures...
I think this is the start of the 5th week of vegetative... I'm not sure... I can check the time exactly later on...
I plan on vegging a little bit more... maybe 1-2 more weeks. There are a couple of "bald spots" in the screen... and if I remember correctly, justAseed had like, hundreds of buds in his SCRoG. So that's what we're shooting for. :)
Anyways, hope you enjoy. All input welcomed!

The temperatures are ROCKING!
They're over at 76-77 F.
The rez is more or less around there... which is a BIG improvement from the previous 88F readings.
Summer is comming.... and I saw 96.8 degrees in my grow room the other day (yesterday?)... WOW! Too hot for me.
Now with the a/c...
The plants LOVE it!
I swear, I opened up the grow room, and here's what I saw:

All of them smiling... all of them. They where sooo happy!

Since you asked:
I was thinking of putting my mums in soil, just because hydro requires a bit more space(Rez tank and all) at least the way I have been setting up my systems. What is the best way to keep the moms small. I am planning on taking clones every two months. The way i figure 2 weeks to root, the another two weeks to veg, then two months till completely flowered. I plan on cloning every two months, ie... once the first cycle of veg is complete, flower the first batch and take clones for the second batch so they need to get put into flower right as the first batch is done. My grow is stictly for my own benefit, not commercial. The only thing I am worried about is keeping the moms ina "bonsai" state. I am worried that during the first cycle they could outgrow my cab. What do you reccomend? Also do you have any tips as far as scrogging goes? I plan on using the three healthiest clones to fill my cab and then after the two weeks in veg go to flower. Do you think scrog is the best set up or maybe even sog. Sorry if I am rambling, a little sat. night blunt to say the least but I am open to any ideas/tips/suggestions you may have about my fall grow. Being a new grower I am trying to learn everything I can in order to maximize my efforts. thanks for all the help man your post are always informative. Much love- Diz:rasta:

Since you asked:
I would definitely have the moms in soil.
The best way to keep moms small.... I don't have that much experience to tell you... I know justAseed topped them quite a lot... and a small pot will help...
But man, my mom is in a 8" tall pot, and she shared that pot with another plant... .even though that's her situation, she's still relatively big. But that's good... because there are shitloads of secondary growths prime for cloning.
To keep her height down, I just LSTed her. I tied her... and re-tied her... and re-tied her. Over and over and over again. She runs both clockwise, and counter-clockwise over the pot... she crosses herself various times.
Her height is relatively small... but she's one big momma.
As to vegging for 2 weeks::: You've got to see what you want to do.
Right now, I'm almost at 60 days of vegetative for my SCRoG.
Why?
Well, the plants simply... well... they don't grow in 5 minutes.
For SCRoG, you should flower (so I hear) when the screen is about 70-80% full. And that "fullness", has taken me almost 2 months. If I would have flowered after two weeks... I don't think I would have gotten "much".
But it depends... because that's talking about SCRoG... if you want SoG... yeah... I think you can veg for 2-3 weeks. Shit... I know there's people that veg clones for 1 week, then 12/12 them.
In fact, I've read of people that veg them for NO time... They just root their clones, and off they go 12/12.
The 2 weeks for rooting sounds about right. From my cloning experience, it's more or less like that. First 7 days, you have root bumps, and small tiny "roots"... by the 14th day, now you've got nice roots.
As to TIMING your second grow's clones, to be put just as you take down the 1st ones... well, of course it can be done. But I don't know your experience level. From my "newb level", I know I'd fuck it up somewhere. Somewhere, I'll fuck up the timing... the cycles... the something.
Of course it can be done... shoot for it!
Right now, I'm just happy that everything is going good so far.
As for the "bonsai moms"... The best I've ever seen, has been JustAseed's moms... they where... like... perfect for such small setups. Short... bushy... healthy... He had tiny ass pots for them... I'm not 100% sure, but I think it was something like 3-4" diameter pots. small... and shitloads of topping/FIMing.
I was doing some bonsai moms... to replace the one I described above... but man, I fucked up somewhere... not sure where... but I fucked up. They died... or they're in the process of dying... sooo... we'll try, try, try again. ;)
I suggest/recommend you LST your original seed mom... that'll keep her down. Trust me, she won't outgrow your cab if you don't let her.
Tips regarding SCRoGing:::
Yeah...
Just go for it!!!
It's really fun man... really fun. Just go for it. I use a 1"-squares netting. Or poultry wire/mesh... or whatever name it has. that metal wire thing that resembles a mesh... that... well, justAseed suggested 1" squares.
He said he tried bigger, but it wasn't as "abilitating" to train the girls. And I think he tried smaller than 1", but it kind-choked them. So I guess 1" is perfect.
SCRoG vs SoG
I don't think neither is a 'better' one.
They're just... different.
SCRoG is definitely for small areas... because training and keeping trainned a BIG area SCRoG will be... ufff... a nightmare man. I've got my hands full with my 5.5sq.ft. area as it is.
I believe SoG would be better for bigger grows... bigger lights... light movers... etc.
But I don't have experience with SoG... just quasi-experience with SCRoG.
Those are just my thoughts. Not a bible.
Hope all this helps Diz... just post questions/doubts/etc... people are SUPER friendly in these boards... there's the occassional asshole... but that's only temporary.
Best to you dude :)
Looks really good. Looking forward to this one!
Thanks dog... Great to have you post here man :)
Best to all of you,

Looking very nice man :)
Thanks LIP my man! :)
Good to have you posting here... ;)
Here are some pics for all of you to enJOY!!!
I was going to change the nutrient mix to flowering yesterday, but couldn't,..... I got distracted with, erm, other "stuff".
And when I actually was going to do it, it was around 1am... and considering it takes like 2.5hours to fill my rez, I said "fuck it"... I'll do it today.
PROCRASTINATION: Never do today what you can leave for tomorrow.
^^^ Ok, that's a joke... that's a very shitty way to live.
Anyways, today (hopefully) we change the nutrient mix... re-program the timers for 12/12, and tomorrow at 8am... lights OFF!!!!
Wuhuuu!!!!
Hope you all like, best to all

Dude you have helped me so much. Got a few other questions regarding clones and mothers. What kind of nutes and at what strength do you give the mothers? What is the nutes strength/week for the clones, ie...1/4 strength when roots are formed and grad increase it from there? I searched for justaseeds scrog grow and it was also very helpful, thanks for pointing it out. I plan on building a cloner like his, something small, low budget. I have been wrestling with the scrog vs sog. I like the fact that I could have one mother, take 40 clones and flower them as soon as they have well developed roots. However I also like the way scrog is set up. I think justaseeds cab yielded 12 oz, but it seems like scrog taks a little more work, ie training and vegging them for two months before the harvest. I was reading another post about sog and the were saying that you should try to get between 1/2 and 1 oz per plant and the idea is to have 40 of them. This would seem that in the same amount of time it would take me to veg and train three large clones under a scrog i could already have the sog mostly flowered being that I would put them into flower at around 6 inches with between 20-40 oz harvested. Anyone have any comments, suggestions? Just trying to get some more info. Thanks turtle, loc, jdog, lip, justaseed, and lw for all the information and informative post you guys provide. Keep it up and be easy!!!:rasta:
PS: Turtle the plants are looking sweeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeet!!!!!

I give my mothers SUPER weak 20-20-20 nutes... but this is now... after they've grown.
When they where growing, I would give them Brita-filtered water... SuperTHRIVE, and Schlutz Cactus Juice... it worked fine. They grew healthy and strong. For surely somebody has a better concoction... but that one worked pretty cool.
As for the clones... when I was going to:::
ROOT: Brita-water, just a little SuperTHRIVE
After they had roots, I went straight to General Hydroponics "clones" mix (using, duh, the GH 3-part nutrients).
Just like that... worked fine... :)
It'd be very interesting to see if you do a SoG. I think the only person doing SoG here is Zandor. And I'm positive he'll be happy to see somebody else doing it also. In any event, SoG vs SCRoG... it's all fun. It's all fun.
But you're right... by the time you finishing filling the screen with the clones in a SCRoG... a SoG grow would be waaay into flowering already. So, yeah, definitely, SoG is faster.

I'll tell my plants you said they look "sweet". They'll like that. ;)
Ha!
Thanks man... keep us posted on how it goes!
