Ok... I know this is a political thread, but since most people on here don't like George Bush (i'm assuming), or the government in general, I just thought I'd post this link.

Don't know if you all heard about this in the news in the past, but Scooter Libby, one of Cheney's top aides had leaked classified, top-secret info to this New York Times reporter.. basically 'outing' a CIA agent and giving secret pre-war intelligence crap. There was this big stir-up and shit, controversies and the like.. and George Bush, all the while saying they would get to the bottom of it and FIRE whoever said to go ahead and give these details. Even made it clear that they were trying to hunt down leakers.

Well, it just so happens that Mr. George W. AUTHORIZED the leaks HIMSELF!! Well, according to Scooter Libby, who had testified before a federal grand jury.

It's going to be interesting how this plays out... :rasta:

All governments need to pull their fingers out, and realize what their countries need. They need to stop thinking in boxes and expand. They need to run our countries better.

Britains government is so fucked up we basically have 2 prime ministers... Tony Blair and Gordon Brown... They're doing the same job, and its stupid!

Lol, I don't really have a negative opinion of Bush personally. I haven't really minded how he went about his time in office. You can't just sit by forever if you want things to get done. No one should soley blame Bush for our country's problems, but everyone does. That's what he signed up for by being President. He's just the posterboy for America's political fuck-ups.

he didnt sign up for getting into us into an unprovoked war, but he did anyway.
and then a year or so after the war started he had a media event on an aircrafter carrier in a flight suit under a banner that said mission accomplished and saida the big part of the fighting was done. that was a bold faced lie. how anyone couldnt have a problem with him lying about something like that is beyond me

Like I said, you can either sit back and watch how something plays out or try and do something. He chose to do something. Might not have been the best way though, that is pretty clear by now.

That whole mission accomplished thing was a little sketchy, but come on, you have to expect things to change with time. Either way, I'm not going to just up and start resenting my govt. for that. Someone has to support them.

Way too much hearsay and conjecture from all around to be considered any sort of documentary, or to even take anything said as fact, on the issue.

I agree about the twin towers too, I just hate loose change.

All presidents do things that people don't agree with, what's new? How is this only related to Bush, read a fucking history book.

This is soley related to Bush and his administration, how isn't it? ALLEGEDLY he leaked pre-war classified documents to the press for his own political gain and his party's gain. Regardless of where you stand on the political ladder, it's important that people recognize that he allegedly leaked these documents merely for political gain.

And to think that a president would do that... well, isn't that somewhat close to treason?

Of course presidents do things all the time that people don't like. BUT when these things cause a downward spiral in a war that we shouldn't even be in with Iraq, when the president constantly lies and changes his positions on key issues, especially about Iraq (WMDs anyone?).. Osama? When his approval rating is in the 30's, and when you have scandals going on left and right... and now THIS? You really think that these are just little issues that should just be shrugged off and forgotten? Granted, that's what most people do... but I'm just trying to get information out there about what's going on in our government.

Just because these are our leaders, doesn't mean we have to support them or stand by them. Aren't we supposed to question our government, to keep them in check? Nothing pisses me off more than people who claim I'm 'un-American' or that i'm a 'traitor' because I disagree with this government and I have bad things to say about it.

I like this quote from Roosevelt.. "To announce that there must be no criticism of the president, or that we are to stand by the President, right or wrong, is not only unpatriotic and servile, but is morally treasonable to the American public. Nothing but the truth should be spoken about him or any one else. But it is even more important to tell the truth, pleasant or unpleasant, about him than about any one else."

as the President he has the power to declassify documents as he sees to it. Vice Cheney has this power to some extent, Libby didn't want to do it, so he had Cheney (who first told him to do it) confirm w/ Bush it is okay. Technically Bush didn't break the law b/c he can choose when to declassify information.
but, he did it w/ his motives in mind, which is frowned upon.

Ok for anyone that didn't realize... all governments are liars. Democrats, Republicans, anyone in office lies. There is so much going on in this world that the general public has no clue about, and will never know about. I'm not saying they're all bad people, but governments do a lot of nasty dirty work that would shock the public.

A teacher at my school actually got a book published uncovering myths about the war in iraq. Everyone says "oh Iraq helps out Al Quada", when in fact Saddam and Osama hate eachother. I'll admit the book is a little biased and over the top, but when it comes down to it he's right. We'll find out everything we want to know about the war in about 70 years. He has interviews and quotes from UN inspectors that say over and over again "we have never found anything related to WMD's in Iraq"... yet we used that as a pushing point to invade.

I have two friends in the Marines and they are scheduled to deploy next January to Iraq. I asked them how nervous and worried they are to be going over (Their unit suffered 40% casualties last time they were there), and both agreed that they're not scared of Iraq because by time they're deployed, we'll be fighting in Iran. They don't have a yes or no opinion with Bush and they think their job in Iraq is making a difference, and i don't disagree. The troops ARE helping in Iraq, but there really wasn't a good enough reason to invade and they both know that. They've also shared stories about how many thousands of innocent ppl are killed but its all covered up and the news reports it as "suspected terrorists killed today", when in fact its little kids and their moms.

We're neck deep in shit and we're trying to find a way out... we shouldn't be in this situation in the first place.

lmao, we don't have 1 guy in power that can do anything he wants. Do you really not know how your own government works?

This government makes Nixon look sqeaky clean. Facts: He (includes the executive branch of the U.S. Government, if you need me to be pedantic) lied about the motive for going to war with a sovereign nation that posed no immenent threat; he authorized the disclosure of classified material; he broke and continues to break international law at gitmo; he has the most sweeping domestic spying program in history...

If you truly believe this isn't the most currupt executive branch in U.S. history, then please cite another...
