SUBJECT: CANADIAN CHARTER OF RIGHTS AND FREEDOMS VIOLATED!

I applied to the City of Calgary for use of a city park for a legal event, the annual "Global Marijuana March" which has over 200 cites world wide having events to educate people to the truths about marijuana. http://www.globalmarijuanamarch.org/

City of Calgary event committee refused my request.
The event is deemed inappropriate for a City of Calgary park.

Canada does still have a legal medical marijuana program.
It may not work well but it is in place none the less.

A reminder that as Canadians we do have the right to gather in a group and have our peaceful event in the City of Calgary.

" GUIDE TO THE CANADIAN CHARTER OF RIGHTS AND FREEDOMS
Part II : The Contents of the Canadian Charter of Rights and Freedoms
Section 2

Fundamental Freedoms

Everyone has the following fundamental freedoms:

freedom of conscience and religion;
freedom of thought, belief, opinion and expression, including freedom of the press and other media of communication;
freedom of peaceful assembly; and
freedom of association.
The Charter guarantees certain freedoms for everyone in Canada. Canadian traditions and laws have reflected the freedoms set out in section 2 for many years. Since 1982, the Charter has given these freedoms constitutional protection.

Under section 2 of the Charter, Canadians are free to follow the religion of their choice. In addition, they are guaranteed freedom of thought, belief and expression. Since the media are an important means for communicating thoughts and ideas, the Charter also protects the right of the press and other media to speak out. Our right to gather and act in peaceful groups is also protected, as is our right to belong to an association such as a trade union.

These freedoms are set out in the Charter to ensure that Canadians are free to create and to express their ideas, gather to discuss them and communicate them widely to other people. These activities are basic forms of individual liberty. They are also important to the success of a democratic society like Canada. In a democracy, people must be free to discuss matters of public policy, criticize governments and offer their own solutions to social problems.

Even though these freedoms are very important, governments can sometimes limit them. For example, laws against pornography and hate propaganda are reasonable limits on freedom of expression because they prevent harm to individuals and groups. "

appeal the refusal! You have the right to protest!

I hope you win your fight!

one time, in 1994 we were denied a permit for hempfest

so we just had one anyway! one of the biggest ever! at gasworks park in seattle, the next year the ACLU stepped in and now we always get our permits!

Just gather there anyway, they have no right to refuse a peaceful march.

sadly the U.S. is puting alot of pressure on Canada not to legalize cannabis.....

The Canadian gov't as a whole would rather reap the benefits of a better U.S. relationship then grant drug users the freedom to legally consum THC without a prescription

nevada and colorado are on their way to legalize 1 oz for those 21 and older though

Debbie and i met in person with Greg of the Calgary Police Service and had a very interesting meeting.
The Calgary Police Service is going to be providing policing services, traffic control and the like (the stuff police do).

The Calgary Police Service will be present for our parade route (traffic control, etc...) and rally as we need the Calgary Police Service to help us make sure we can have our legal march / parade and all rally attendees get to go home safe and unhurt!

The Calgary Police Service prefers to let myself and my rally / march / parade marshals interact with the rally attendees our selfs.

So that means i will have what are called rally / march / parade marshals with bright traffic type vests attending the rally. I will introduce the official Calgary 420 rally / march / parade marshals to all rally attendees at the start of the rally. If you have any problems come to me (Keith Fagin), i will be slowly driving a red Chev truck right in front of the march / parade attendees honking the horn (health issues prevent me from marching with you all sadly) or find a official Calgary 420 rally / march / parade marshal and ask for their help. We all we be more then happy to assist you!

We get to march along the planned parade route already set in place. See http://gmm.Calgary420.ca/ for route map.
I do get to have the permits that i applied for (after they are paid for of course). 8) We do get to have the AC power outlets at OLYMPIC PLAZA. 8) 8) 8)
LIVE BAND for entertainment folks!!! 8) 8)

I have to resubmit the proper forms (city hall sent the wrong ones to me originally), Greg of the Calgary Police Service walked me through it during our meeting. I also have to buy insurance for the 2006 Calgary Global Marijuana March to cover any issues that could arise.

I know this is going to the biggest pro marijuana rally conservative Calgary has every experienced folks.

The best part is we all get to have a real good time with other like mind people and we even get to educate people in regards to the truths about marijuana to boot. Have to like that eh!!!!

Take care all!

City event department still tried to give me a hard time (blow me off) when i went there in person to pay for the proper permits Thursday morning.

I was not going away until i got to pay for the permits i was fully untitled to get.

At least the people i had to deal with had changed their attitude toward me before i left. All in the delivery of the words is all.

It is nice to win a small battle for sure. It has not been easy but it has been well worth it.

No marching on the sidewalks for us. Right down the middle of the streets with the City of Calgary and the Calgary Police Service providing traffic control / blocking of the streets for our March / Parade. Nice and peaceful and safe for all of event attendees.

I have all the proper permits and insurance and official Calgary 420 Marijuana Community event marshals for the Calgary 2006 Global Marijuana March event.

The Calgary Police Service will stand back and stand down and let us police our own event attendees with our own like minded people (Official Calgary 420 Marijuana Community event marshals)

I think, dont quote me though, that vancouver never gets permits for their march. They just show up and march. I will be at the toronto march, its become a week long event with smoke friendly after parties. The police last year didnt venture into the smoke bowl that queens park is before and after the march. They gave us wide berth while directing traffic. Our volunteers did a great job organizing too, as i am sure you guys are doing. For a bunch of "stoners" we smoothy run a world wide demonstration that never has any problems, besides cops hate us.
Hopefully Cow town doesnt get a bunch of harrassment because the cops are still mad about mayerthorpe. The key seems to be getting a critcal mass of people, once you reach a few hundred the cops get nervous about arresting anyone.
Anyway thanks for representing pot heads in harper-land. We get 10-15 thousand people in toronto and its barely gets any media coverage because its almost old news now.
