This is my first year growing, and I have done a search but cannot find any info on whether or not to prune? Except for one article that suggested it and mentioned cutting the leaves halfway down its stalk I have a friend who claims you should. Do you prune the fan leaves? any leaves??

oh and one more quick question...

I have also read that some plants flower on 13/11 cycle? Is this possible. I am on the eastern side of the US and my 3 female savitas seem to be showing small 1/4 inch flowers....

Thanx

I know that pruning is good sometimes cause it is needed to expose a greater number of leaves to the sun. I dont know much about it except the use for gaining more light to the plant.

Depends witch leaves you cut....Sometimes it will slow down growth ........Because its take energy to grow to heal from the cutting

pruning as in overall trimming? NO!!!

top, pinch, cut or prune (whatever you care to call it) the top when still a seedling at the 3rd-5th node. do not trim the ends off of branches...unless taking clones, then from the bottom, preferably and best never to cut anything during flowering. if you're trying to get more light into the interior bend the plant or tie down at 45 degree angle.

showing 1/4" flowers? not buds? if they're beginning to flower you should be seeing fingertip-size buds with lots of hairs coming out...if you're looking at are more like a true flower then you're looking at males. yes, 13/11 will trigger flowering...why is it set on that?

it's not set on that. they are growing in pots naturally. Have been since beginning of april. I wish I had pics. I have looked at tons on this site, and the others, what's a girl to do ;)

The 1/4 flowers have lots of hairs comming out of them. I am pretty sure it is a female. The flowers are everywhere now, all with these iridecent/white hairs. I wonder how long till it really takes off? Where I live, the natural light changes to 12/12 at the end of september

:) Thanx

ahh...phew.

it's different outdoors than inside time-wise. the plants begin flowering long before 12/12 starts. most of mine started flowering around the last week of july and are going strong now. the sativa's started a couple weeks ago so it's a full bouquet out back right now...some strains are being harvested right now too (none of mine unfortunately). depending on what strain ya got it can be anywhere from the end of this month (doubtful) until mid-dec before they're ripe. i have some hawaiian-maui crosses that are looking like they'll be done around halloween, maybe mid-nov while the indi's look like around the end of this month into mid-oct. it varies so much it's hard to pin down exact dates...ya just do it when they're ready.

look around the hairs closely and see if their is any bud like growth, but it might just be to early in floweringfor buds do be evedent. but dont cut leaves, they have energy that will be used, in flowering they will turn brown, shrivel, and fall off (at least shade leaves) and this is fine. it is simply nutes being naturally drawn out making the leave useless at that point.
