I have heard of adding sugar to the soil (brix) to up the microbial life in the soil and reduce nemotodes via a healthier rhizoshpere but as to doing anything else I am not sure. Molassis is better then refined sugar. Only good with organics

There is a thread here: http://boards.cannabis.com/showthread.php?p=700167&posted=1#post700167 the answer you seek is there. I will sum it up for you though (although it is a good read.)
If you are feeding glucose to your plant you will be feeding the plant what it needs to use up extra terpenes (the molecules that smell) in the plant. This contributes to the formation of more THC so if you are trying to make more potent pot, a lessening of smell is an indicator of success. This only goes for stinky pot. I don't think it would work with low odor pot (to the same extent) unless you added a precursor for the terpenes too.
This might work for sugar other than glucose, I'm not sure yet.
This is some of what I have learned over the past weeks and is not the full detailed explination of what is occuring inside the plant.
FERMENTATION is the way of the game.

No, that would put you both on the same level of expertise when it comes to adding sugar to your soil. Most Spliff stank's in its last stage. I have always welcomed the smell when flowering, although my opinion is not based on a controlled study.

Basically if feeding your plant sugar water makes it bigger, healthier and more potent, then carry on. But if you notice a change, stop and flush straight away.
I've heard of people growing great plants with sugar water, and I've heard of alot of peoples plants dying because of it...
And indeed, if you do dont use refined sugar, its bad for us, its bad for the plant, go natural.

Turbinado = Sugar in the raw.
I wonder if local, unprocessed, fresh honey would work. Not that stuff you buy in the store... but from a bee keeper.

Bee pollen found in the honey is very nutriecious and has real good biochemical elements great to keep humans healthy.
Maple syrup, the darkest you can get is a good source of sugar

Look for sugars with labels that tell you what kind of sugar you are using. You need to know specifically what is working and what is not. Try dextrose and fructose you can most likely find them in a specialty or health food store. You could also find even more interesting sugars there.
