Hi, i have heard you need coolwhite or warmwhite CFLS to grow properly, i was wondering if the soft white ones i have are totaly useless which i am guessing they are. I have seen "Daylight" cfls would these be ok, the pacakge only said that its like daylight :(
I would like to know what to search for in stores, i would prefer not to shop online. - btw i am in ontario.
Some more info would be greatly appreciated. :smokin: Peace.
Hello magic, and welcome to the forums.
First of all, I believe your lights will be fine for veg, but as most would recommend, get an HPS light for flowering. Or you could switch to a warm white CFL when you are ready switch. I went to Canadian Tire and baught some 32w cool white spiral bubls for about $10. And they are working wonders on my plants.
Good luck with whatever you decide though

Hey bud. CFL, CFL, CFL.... Lets see... For vegative growth you want a bluer spectrum light (a cool bulb) and for flowering you want a more amber spectrum (a warm bulb).
Bluer light promotes rapid stem and leaf growth, amber light promotes budding.
Of course, the wattage and number of bulbs after that depends on # plants, size room, running costs, heat buildup, etc.
I personally dont flower with CFLs, but I find lower watt warm spectrum CFLs to be idea to germ with. Then for vegative growth for a small to medium-small plant, 3 30 watt daylight CFL's work great for about 4 plants veg.
Flowering, i aint even gonna lie to ya bro, no clue in the CFL wattage dept here.
From what I heard being passed around from overgrow and then onto natureshigh before both were shut down. For your flowering cycle with cfl's...and this is going to hurt. You should have anywhere between 150-200watt/ft2. Like I said it's going to hurt, but the answer is yes in case you were wondering, you can flower with less wattage but that is when your buds become airy and loose. Who cares though right? bud is bud, you'll just have to grow more often. But good luck, because it can be done and as long as you keep your lights fairly close, you should be alright!

Hey guys thanks for your advice.
I plan on just jumpstarting my plants indoors and switching them to outdoor around may, so im not to worryed about the flowering. I think i will use 3-5 daylight cfls with around 2600 lumens each, hopefully this will be good since i only want to grow about 5-10, but i still will probably pick up some cool and warm white because i am going to grow 2-3 indoors this summer also.(no crop hunters indoors :P )
ah and thanks for the warm welcome, ive been looking at the forums for quite sometime and finnaly signed up, im lazy what can i say.
I used to use Hcultivation.com a long time ago and was sad to see it disappear, luckily i found this place :D .
