I am so excited (doesn't take much). Today I discovered that putting a shallow container of water and a few drops of dishwashing liquid (to break the surface tension) on a piece of yellow paper will catch more fungus gnats and their eggs than a white piece of paper.

The yellow color water caught twice as many fungas gnats as the white.

Hmmm, since I keep a box turtle in my garden, where she is patrolling, I have not seen a slug or snail. For that same reason my chickens are free range. Now if I could only get them to eat ants.

ok, I'll try it and report back.

I should say I did not discover yellow attracts insects. I got tired of battling the yellow sticky traps. Besides, on the sticky traps, I saw plenty of adult gnats, but not eggs or larvae.

This water and soap gets the eggs too. So I got tired of them sticking to me and the plant and anything else they touch. I decided to try an old method I used to use to catch fleas when I had a dog. A nightlight turned on at night in a dark room, all the fleas will jump towards the light. Let me tell you I caught thousands of fleas like this. Don't forget to put a white piece of paper under the dish. They see the white and jump for it.

Use a vacuum cleaner and just remove as many flying creatures as possible. Like a dust buster that doesn't have much suction, but just enough to suck up insects.

I also posted a receipe I got from overgrow called mite eradicator. It really works. I sprayed my hibiscus tree which had the lower 1/3 covered with white fly. Now they are gone.

Are you doing soil inside? I just took all my soil plants and put them outside. It messes up hydro and you get fungus gnats You have to be vigilent and wipe them out.

Latewood, I don't think gnats can do that. Are you sure it wasn't an early mosquito? Do you think you are a little too chemical happy?

The reason I never saw any eggs on the yellow sticky's was because the fly cannot move once stuck. However with the water and soap trap. They struggle and drop their eggs. I can see dead larvae now.

Gen, what do you mean...Are you saying that gnats don't bite? they sure do! They will swarm your Ass...and chemical happy? No, these are products that are used by essentially, all Pros. I have awesome sensi grows with clones going...the leaves are frosted to the tips after 5 weeks, and I want them to stay that way! All the experts that I consulted with, agreed that my choice of products, were the best on the market, but if my research, sharing of knowledge offends you, I will abstain in the future.

you posted several times about being overwhelmed with gnats, I was just trying to help.....never mind I gotta go.

Sorry if I offended you.

great we're friends again.

What musical instrument do you play. I am an artist in a sense. I make tiffany style stained glass lamps. So I get to play with color everyday.

Did you have to cover the plants? I removed all my soil plants and stuck them outside. No more gnat problems inside. I had larvae in reservoir container. Bad.

No, the direction's stated turn off all recycling electrical systems...i.e.refrig, fans, AC's, and timers...etc.
close all windows and place on stand. leave house for 2-3 hours...air out 1/2 hour...good to go.

I am now applying gnatrol to my rez to kill any larvae/eggs in the medium. It destroy's young'un's reproductive capabilities.
