Melatonin is one of the brain chems that makes you feel tired, weed increases that by something like 3000% which is why you get really tired after you start to come down from smoking weed. Which is why a lot of people including myself use marijuana to get to sleep and maintain sleep longer without interruption.

actually what melatonin does is help your body to reset it's internal sleep schedule. exactly how it does this i'm not too sure about (try using the Submit A Question thing on a website @ www.holistichealthline.com), but alot of travellers use it when they're changing time zones constantly.

did ya ever wonder if melatonin levels are increased when you smoke bud?

yes they are!

New Book Links Marijuana To Melatonin Production

August 28, 1997, Washington, D.C.: Smoking marijuana stimulates melatonin production in the human body at greater levels than any other known method, allege authors of a new book entitled Your Body's Natural Wonder Drug: Melatonin.
Authors J. Reiter, Ph.D. and Jo Robinson cite an Italian study that discovered significantly higher melatonin levels in subjects who consumed marijuana within the last half-hour than those who abstained. The authors speculate that some of marijuana's therapeutic properties could be linked the increased production of melatonin.
"The fact that smoking marijuana is accompanied by a dramatic increase in melatonin production may explain some of the drug's positive effects, [including] ... being used to counteract the toxicity of chemotherapy, treat migraines, reduce intraocular pressure, minimize pain, treat menstrual cramps, and moderate wasting syndrome in AIDS patients," the authors state.

i take a 1 mg pill at night it's the kind that dissolve under your tounge tho... it doesn't make me sleepy, which threw me off..... i took it, about half an hour later i'm laying in bed like i always am, mind racing like usual all the things that usually happen when i won't be able to fall asleep cuz i don't have drugs/sleeping pills, then all of a sudden, i'm waking up in the midddle of the night to roll around and get comfterable, realizing i feel asleep... which with me, is quite amazing. i was able to sleep last night too....

now onto another question.... why the fuck am i so goddamned horny now? for the past two days all i can think about is pussy, and how bad i want it >.< good thing i'm married or i might have to stop taking this wonder drug....

I was recommended it as a sleep-aid last year, I said fuck it after increasing my dose each night with no improvement on my sleep. I ended up taking a handful one night and just layed in bed thinking "WTF" (yes, double-yew tee eff)

I have never heard of melatonin pills before.
Sounds a bit dodgy to me...lol

Do you have to be prescribed them or can you get them from a chemist?

K doesn't matter just read they do not have to be prescribed....

did you know they are used as a dietary suplement
and "In animal models, melatonin has been demonstrated to prevent the damage to DNA by some carcinogens, stopping the mechanism by which they cause cancer."

yea i read about that as well... but if i was worried about damaged dna caused by carcinogens i wouldn't be smoking <.< i'm just glad i can finally fucking sleep without having to pretty much be literally put the fuck out... it feels so good... and weird at the same time....

lol nah I just mean't it seems to do more good than bad....

i thought it might have some effect on your body like coke does (not comparing it to coke!)....like your body might get used to the extra melatonin and then when you "come down" off it you body wont produce as much as normal....
but I guess not....hahaha

cool thread though!

I use melatonin once in awhile. It works okay if I don't use it too much. After three or four nights of using it, it can cause depression.
I ususally experience colorful dreams when I use it.

You are very right and the SAME thing happens with weed, which is why some people experience minor withdrawl symptoms when they go from heavy smoking to nil smokin.:stoned: :stoned: :stoned: :stoned: :stoned: :stoned: :(

It extends the lifetime of Rats and Mice by 20%. Rats and Mice, who had their CB1 receptors blocked lived 20% less.

Melatonin levels rise 4,000% two hours after smoking a joint. (Chart in signature)

the great thing about melatonin is that its impossible to OD on. from what ive read, people have been given over 1000x the normal doses with no toxicity reported. i usually take 4+ of them along with a valerian if im bored at night and dont want to smoke. gives you a pretty nice buzz. the last time i took melatonin recreationally, i took 7 at around 2 in the morning. at 3 i walked out of my friends house (with his consent), walked a few blocks up, pissed on a BMW, and then came home with a bagel. we still have no idea where the bagel came from haha.

No very interesting from what I've read. Oddly, this is the n,acetyl analog of 5mo-dmt. I sleep fine already.

I've found that taking much less than 3mg works better for sleep - many people are able to sleep better on .3mg - 1 mg. Here's a report about it:

http://web.mit.edu/newsoffice/1999/melatonin-1103.html

I think you have to try experimenting with different doses. Sometimes, taking too much melatonin has the OPPOSITE effect that you are aiming for.

They make smaller doses, but the product is harder to find. I chop up 3mg pills when I don't have the small ones. It's not as exact, though. I don't take it every day. It's a hormone, and probably not wise to take every night.

Diphenhydramine (Benadryl) 25 mg is a safe alternative as a sleep aid. I have not needed it lately, but it works. It is a good allergy medicine, but is also marketed under different product names for sleep. You should be able to get a bottle of a "drug-store" name knock-off - 100 "allergy/antihistimine" mintabs for under 10 dollars. Tylenol's "Simply Sleep" is just Diphenhydramine - and considerably more expensive than the generic allergy version that store chains carry.

So if they can make melatonin to be able to take it as a pill. Can they make dopeamine and seritonin into a pill? Cuz then what the hell would be the point of Oxys, I would use those instead.

Serotonin has both an exposed OH group, which makes it to polar to cross the blood/brain barrier, and a simple trypamine which makes it very suseptable to metabolic destruction. Dopamine I'm not sure.

ok so i havent read shit from here, but ill tell ya what i know. i always took 4mg, after about a half hour i started to feel tired, i would lay down and the next thing i knew it was 6:30 am. i do know that it wont knock you the fuck out, so dont fight it, if you feel tired, go to sleep, for me, if i did fight it the tired feeling would leave after about an hour, then where are you left? fucked...good luck!!!
