If the cannabis community showed HALF the activism immigrants are showing right now we would get much more done.
Education however, is so important when dealing with cannabis. Talk to people you know and show them the truths of marijuana. Don't give them a "bible thumping" impression, let them know you aren't just being one-sided.
Speak of RESPONSIBLE marijuana use and its medicinal uses. Talk about health issues and alternatives you can use with marijuana to make it safer.
Show them how a change could improve the world.
By legalizing marijuana and promoting responsible use we can save TIME and MONEY for things better served. 41% of all drug-related jail sentences are marijuana related. Can you imagine the space in jail we could save? Or how about all those tax dollars that could go for more important things such as poverty, natural disasters, and fighting REAL criminals. What about taking the power from the street criminal and giving the people a safer means to enjoy marijuana?
We have to educate the people....the people who never found the truth and simply continue to believe what the government told them because they don't know better.
You don't have to knock door to door. The best way to bring the issue up to someone you are talking to might be to mention something marijuana-related in the news. Start sharing your opinions. Let them see your passion and belief in what you are saying. Heck, print out posters with info and post them in public places. Join organizations and write to the media. etc etc etc
The more people who speak out, the less the media and government can ignore it. I mean look at the Marc Emery situation. The story is not only important to the cannabis community but also to those who have foreign policy concerns. It's a BIG story with LITTLE media time and that HAS to change.
I'd love to see thousands of cannabis consumers making a stand and surrounding city streets with protest one day.
But with cannabis....it all starts with RESPONSIBILITY and EDUCATION.
