View Full Version : A Lesson From Immigrants

If the cannabis community showed HALF the activism immigrants are showing right now we would get much more done.

Education however, is so important when dealing with cannabis. Talk to people you know and show them the truths of marijuana. Don't give them a "bible thumping" impression, let them know you aren't just being one-sided.
Speak of RESPONSIBLE marijuana use and its medicinal uses. Talk about health issues and alternatives you can use with marijuana to make it safer.

Show them how a change could improve the world.

By legalizing marijuana and promoting responsible use we can save TIME and MONEY for things better served. 41% of all drug-related jail sentences are marijuana related. Can you imagine the space in jail we could save? Or how about all those tax dollars that could go for more important things such as poverty, natural disasters, and fighting REAL criminals. What about taking the power from the street criminal and giving the people a safer means to enjoy marijuana?

We have to educate the people....the people who never found the truth and simply continue to believe what the government told them because they don't know better.

You don't have to knock door to door. The best way to bring the issue up to someone you are talking to might be to mention something marijuana-related in the news. Start sharing your opinions. Let them see your passion and belief in what you are saying. Heck, print out posters with info and post them in public places. Join organizations and write to the media. etc etc etc

The more people who speak out, the less the media and government can ignore it. I mean look at the Marc Emery situation. The story is not only important to the cannabis community but also to those who have foreign policy concerns. It's a BIG story with LITTLE media time and that HAS to change.

I'd love to see thousands of cannabis consumers making a stand and surrounding city streets with protest one day.

But with cannabis....it all starts with RESPONSIBILITY and EDUCATION.

I just read this..good post..and I agree about speaking out more..It would be great to see about 10 million people march for legalization on the same day in different states.

You two want to fill me in on what a protest actually does? Has the benefits been proven?

You actually think it would make a difference if we had a pot protest???

In it's own way it's like a poll. The more people that show gives a clue as to the support level. You know politicians...changing their minds due to popular opinion.

I would imagine a group of younger people in tie dye shirts wouldn't sway anyone but if there were medical marijuana users there with inflictions, stories for the press....then maybe!

yea i can just see a bunch of kids talking PRO marijuana, but sounding so stupid giving us all a bad name.

Some of the kids on here are very smart with tons of passion, but they still have alot to learn as far as the world goes. People dont want to listen to a bunch of stoned kids say how much they like to smoke weed.

We need parents and doctors and layers to say how good it is.

What do you think a bunch of kids would say..... uhhh huh huh I like to smoke weed and stufff.... uhh huh huh yea yea weed is cool.........

Err, have you forgotten about the civil rights movement? And the mass protests in France which caused president Jacques Chirac to cave into their demands just a few days ago? And do you have a better idea about how to voice our discontent?

Thats one thing I don't get...even if some have their MM card..at least you still offer to march..I have seen MM people actually snub non mm card folks and they need to remember..you may be safe by state law...but Federal is the one that needs to be changed and new laws implemented.

thecurious, wouldn't we all want to see the streets lined with pot-smokers?!?!?!

I think the Doctors are the most important part. But, if some people won't help, all they'll be doing is getting paid to find negative aspects or getting non-quality cannabis for positive research.

A few months ago, doctors at UMass were making a big deal about it, I don't know how it's going.

Indeed. We will never be able to educate the public without the help of the doctors. Check out Dr. Lester Grinspoon's websites. They're really cool:

There are 2 Drs here..one an oncologist and one a hematologist that have given reports on MJ from their journals..well established and respected. The hospital they do their work at is here in Alabama..people fly in to this hospital from all over the world because they have the highest success rate of kidney transplant....they also receive mega bucks for Federal Study...but I don't believe they would march..I don't know really..they have shocked me before.:)

Face It, they dont even give us the time of day to listen...

I'm sorry but it'll always be a Class I control substance. And I'm okay with that because it doesn't stop anyone from toking up...

That's what they said about alcohol during Prohibition.
