I have a 1000watt MH system with a conversion bulb in currently for flowering.

I heard a nasty little rumor that if you run BOTH MH and HPS to run BOTH spectrums of light during flowering that your buds will be more potent...

Is this fact or fiction.

If fiction, what CAN you do to ensure maximum potency?

If fact, I have a 400 watt HPS with conversion so I can run 1000Watts of yellowish orange light and 400 watts of blue.

OF COURSE!!!
Dude, the more light, the merrier.

If you're flowering with one 1,000W HPS, and you add a second 1,000HPS, buds will be bigger.

If you have a 1,000W HPS for flowering, and you add a second 1,000W MH, buds will also be bigger.

The question is, which option would be better?
HPS + HPS
or
HPS + MH
?????

But dude, if you've got the bulbs, plug them IN!!!! :D

Well, I know the more light the better, but I want to know is by having both spectrums of light, in other words, adding a little blue light to the mix...

will I get the strongest fattest buds I can?

The rumor is by having BOTH spectrums you are increasing potency...

Should I run blue spectrum or just add the light with the SAME spectrum?

well put it this way , if you only use a mh for flowering ,,you will have buds but not big or that good , if you use hps its all good ... I would use both as hps and keep moving the 400 watt around the plants even out the growth... how many plants and how are you growing them ???? might help a tad keep in mind blue is for growth = vegg red is for flower = buds

the potency in determined by genetics and making sure theres no males or hermies. of course grow a bigger bud and it will get you higher because it is bigger not more potent.
I have seen results of peoples grows that compared hps and mh and they both came out the same.

The reason I'll run both bulbs (MH + HPS) during flowering, is...

HPS for flowering.
MH for vegetative.

Fine...

I'm thinking that during flowering, the plant will have what it needs from the HPS... but, if you add a MH, you'll help it in various other processes that it still runs. Even though it's flowering, it isn't like it "shuts off a switch" to the MH spectrums...

At least, those are my thoughts... :)

Hello GarlicToast :) , can I just ask how many plants are we talking about ?..............
A 1000 watt HPS should be adquate for flowering a fair number of plants.

Anyway, if you wish to add a bit of MH into the mix it definately isn't going to hurt anything but as for increasing potency, I really couldn't imagaine that happening. I think the only way of ensuring good potency is to get hold of the best possible seeds to begin with ;)

Mixing the light is fine as long as it's balanced on the plants.

It is true, you get the best result by changing using first MH then HPS for flowering.

I think this answers my question..

I have the 1000Watt MH with a conversion bulb in it right now. So it is getting the proper spectrum for flowering. And I only have 1 female, the rest turned out to be males

I had just heard that rumor, but if all its going to do is add more light, I dont think I really need to. 1 plant and 1000 watts should be plenty

She is about 2-3 weeks into flowering and is looking pretty good. knock on wood. I will just leave her alone.

I know this depend on seed and breed, but assuming seeds from like Nirvana seed bank, and a plant such as Shiva... any guess as to how much I might yeild out of this plant? I vegged her til she was about 16" tall and a little over a month... like 40-45 days or something.

ANY GUESSES?
