This website claims that its possible to use a MH lamp in a HPS fixture without problems.

Nevermind, someone already tried it. Here is the forum thread from which I got that link. It worked for this guy.

I'm still not sure I would do it. I would worry too much about equipment failure or worse, fire. But here's proof that it can work.

Thats what conversion bulbs are supposed to do. I believe we were speaking of regular MH bulbs.
My electric bill barely went up once I started growing since I rarely need to use the heater anymore

Seems strange they would make a MH convertion bulb if you could just plug in a MH. It may work fine you a while but are you getting the potential of the bulb and is it going to last as long. It may just burn out all of a sudden and do you really want to stress your ladies or burn down your house. Try calling phillips or GE and ask the tech support.

I don't see why it wouldn't work --- HPS ballasts contain all the necessary components to power the MH, basically all the same bits except for the igniter.

The igniter will not damage the MH bulb? Anyone know how the igniter works?
