It isn't so much that there is one single strain that was prevalent back in the '60's; it's more that the last 45 years of selective breeding and better grow technology allows us to grow more potent bud.

Back in the day, most weed was imported from Mexico and Colombia, the stronger weed traditionally coming from the latter. People didn't really know what strain they were smoking or even necessarily its country of origin. A lot like today, actually.

yeah seems to be the case for most. I hardly know what strain I am smoking, but its usually pretty dank. Took me a while to find the good stuff around here though, but no one refers to strains except a select few.
