Hi everyone -- I wanted to post some pics and details of my first grow and maybe get some feedback!

THE LIGHTS: I just set up my 400w HPS system. Right now I'm using a 400w MH conversion bulb on an 18-on/6-off schedule using a grounded timer, and I plan to switch to a 400w HPS bulb when we start flowering. Before that (for the first 11 days, to be exact) I was only using a single 33w fluorescent aquarium tube 24-hours a day.

THE SPACE: I'm using a closet, sectioned off into a 42"w 64"h 33"d growing room. The walls are lined with foil. Since installing the lights yesterday, the temp in the growing room has been between 94 and 98 degrees fahrenheit. The humdity has been between 20% and 28%. I have one wall-mounted non-oscillating fan in there right now, but I want to add a bathroom exhaust fan as soon as possible to help some of that heat escape. The heat concerns me.

THE SEEDS: The seeds I'm growing are nothing special, leftovers from the stuff that I buy. I decided if I can bring these plants to the end, then I'll invest in some really good seeds next time. One plant is quite a bit shorter than the other and that's my fault, I think I fucked him up when I was planting the germinated seed, but the others appear strong and healthy to me. The plants are 12 days old in these photos.

EXTRAS: I topped the soil with worm castings but have not provided any other supplements at this point. I'm watering with plain tap water left in an open container for 24 hours (or more) for chlorine to evaporate, and spraying the leaves occasionally with a 50/50 mix of tap water and seltzer water (for a little added CO2).

Any and all feedback would be awesome, thanks!

You need to lower the lights and LST your plants..:)

Your plants are stretching more than Britney Spear's stomach. The stems are so thin it looks like they will sag soon... lower the lights and bend them over sideways (LST)... you can always start over if you have more seeds.

Ok...I'm looking up LST stuff right now...

Regarding the lights -- that photo was taken after they'd been under the 400w lights for only a couple hours, prior to that they had a really weak fluro bulb that was actually only a couple inches away from their tops...could the stretching be from that fluro bulb not being strong enough, and if so, now that they have WAY more light, will they still be stretching too much?

The light is really hot, I'm worried about moving it too close...am I worried for nothing?

Or should I just start over?

No... you start over when the plants are crisp.

Even if they die tomorrow, you need to make sure. If they die, put them under 12/12 to see if they respond.

Never quit.

Put your hand over the plants for 20 seconds. If its too hot for your hand, its too hot for you plants. I keep my 400W MH 8 inches from the tops.

Good luck!
