Great band. I definately recommend you all go out and listen to 'De-Loused in the Comatorium'. My favorite album to get stoned to.
It a new genre basically. Neo-Psyschodelic/Crazy Prog-Rock.
Great stuff, type that into google images and see the band members ahah. Definatley drug influenced. More than just pot.

They used to smoke crack a lot, now they smoke pot AFTER a days recordings when listening back to what they've done to "hear it from a different perspective"(according to Omar).
Don't do the crack anymore, If you knew anything about them, you would know of the people they lost to drugs, and there was a pact etc for them to give up (I'm talking Omar, Cedric and I think Jeremy) who was one of their friends who died.
Omar and cedric DID succeed though.
Jus tokers now so they say

Actually, im quite the fan, and ive heard that they quit all that stuff
(crack, heroin, coke ect..) but i have heard people say that they have been backstage and will sometimes see them taking a line or so..I know they dont do it as much, but they still do a bit i assume.
Even rumors on a video streaming on the net of Cedric taking an enormous bong rip on sage. Ive never seen it, but it sounds sweet.

I traded for a copy of their set from the lowlands festival 2003. theres an interview at the end and the interviewer asks cedric "what do you do to prepare for a show?" Cedric replies "pcp, lsd, ghb" and omar cuts in with "all that and pilates" Pretty funny shit.
They play like theyre tripping on acid. I've tripped and done a gig before and its probably the craziest experience of my life. Not recommended if you can't already remember the words to your songs; luckily i know my original shit like the back of my hand; throw it in with my jimi covers. Come to think of it, every cover i played was a hendrix jam of some sort. I remember peaking before the second set and realizing that i had played for 3 hours solid without thinking about it. the drummer was pissed needless to say.

De-Loused would also be one of my favorite albums to get stoned to. And yes, Omar and Cedric did both agree to do "Frances The Mute" completely sober. Since then, I know they still smoke weed, but they have kicked their hard drug use to the curb.

I really enjoy their Frances.... I listen to it when I hit the treadmills, I'm only doing 25 mins at a time, but Cygnus...Vismund Cygnus is such a long song its awesome.

You have to listen to their albums from beginning to end. It's the only way :P I like both albums, and their Tremulant EP.
I love Mars Volta, I especially love Cedric and Omar, more when they were with At The Drive-In. I'm sure 99% of Mars Volta fans would disagree with me.
Sure, how they branched out to form Mars Volta since then to make such a unique blend of creativity and pure ecstacy, it's not just music anymore, it's art.
However, what they had with At The Drive-In was special. Maybe it wasn't as innovative as the blend of styles that Mars Volta brought to the table. Maybe it's not as unique in terms of signatures and song structure. However, they rocked out like no other. I'd chop my arm and leg off just to see At The Drive-In perform again. I wasn't one of the lucky few that actually got to see them live. In their earlier days, when no one heard of them, one of my friend's brother taped a show at a small club they did in Florida, there were only 20 people at the show. But as soon as they played, literally all 20 of them were trying to crawl up the stage. They fucking rocked like no other, even more than Mars Volta, as great as they are.
yeah the mars volta rock. My friend got me into them. They are so wierd its cool. wierd in a good way

I saw them live at a chili peppers concert. I'd never seen them live beofre and they were so good. They're singer was INSANE. I couldn't keep my eye's off of him. I just remember how God like he looked onstage with his white microphone siloueted against the lights. And they whole band seemed to sway back in forth in time with the music like some kind of coral swaying it's tentacles in the ocean. The whole thing was just so surreal, it was amazing.
