I know the top flowers first, but how do you get the bottom to start flowering, can you wait for the top to finish, cut it off and keep going.

It would probably be stressful on the plant. If you cut the upper portion of the plant off, you should probably re-veg the remaining portion of the plant for a while before re-flowering, or just use the lower buds to make hash. Or you can tie the plant down so the light hit's the buds more evenly.

You can. Or you can get a couple CFLs and have them concentrating on lower growth instead of the upper, that should pack on a couple more grams. Then, when it's time to harvest, just cut the top and keep the plant rooted -- let the lower stuff grow in a little.

I tryed the cfl tric just for a laugh and it seams to have worked a little. I think i will experiment further on the next batch.

BHG i was thinking the same thing.... that plant must have been starving for light because your lower branches are non-existant, so i would have to conclude stretching.

Very nice top buds though, and the plant would look better and yield more if you had used those lights sooner.

Props on growing other plants too, most ppl wouldnt waste the space LOL,

It was my first grow so i did a few things wrong, but i have bud :D
For my next grow the tomatoes r going outside and i am using the space but when i started i only had 1 plant and though i might aswell not waste the space.
I have trimmed off quite a few branches from the bottom but left a couple with there own lighting just to c what happened.
In the end its all good and i have gained experience for my next grow.

hey cell..

the entire plant should really flower at the same time.. within a day or so..
if it is not flowering at the same time
you are not getting adequate penetration to the lower foilage....

the plants are to big or you need more light... or more space between your plants.. or side lighting

there is a master of side lighting o these boards.. and I mean MASTER

and maybe he will see this thread and tell you about plants that get side lighting that yield more than 1lb!!!!!!!!

Thats what I thought, Im about to stop this grow its not worth it with the lights I got, any way i just germinated the last seed I had left, I think im gonna focus on that until my MH is delivered.

Hey guys, I put CFLs on the side, and now all my lower branches have stretched out from the side... they are budding, but getting VERY close to the lights. How do I stop them from growing into the lights? It is about to become too big for the space I have.

I would just let the branches grow into the light ... they will be minimally damaged, but you are getting growth there that you would normally not have anyway ... still bonus bud ... :smokin:

If youve got CFL's, they can get as close as they want to the light - just make sure that the buds/branches dont touch the light at all. The light should only be a couple of inches away from the buds/branch.
You could make a screen out of wire mesh, or just tie the branches round with some string if youre worried about them touching the light.

Thanks guys! I generally only try to keep them 1-2 inches away. But I water this thing, then that night the frikin thing grows up into the lights above, and into the lights on the side.
This thing has a ton of bud sites. At least half of them coming from shoots that came from the mid/bottom of the plant and headed for the side lights once I placed them on.

I am actrually going to have to convert a closet that is 8' X 12' and 7' high so I can put the plant in there. When I started this flowering (about 12 days ago) It was about 2 & 1/2 feet talle and around The thing is over 3' by 3' already. I am afrai this is going to approach 6X6 before it is done.

Do you know of pics that will show how to tie these off? If I screen it, will it limit the buds shooting out taller?

I am going to move some of the lights closer now. Thanks for the suggestions...

PS Can fan leaves touch the bulbs?

you need to bend the upper most tallest branches around in the box at a good hight and lower the light some from the top to get as much penatration as you can till you r ready to harvest...it will be worth the effort ...just be easy with her...it cant happen all in one day...lol...
