It's for everyone. For me and for you and for your mother and her lover.
Honestly. Overstock, food nearing expiration but still good, slight imperfections and blemishes, and out of season goods. Want more reasons? The US wastes 96 billion pounds of perfectly good food each year.

How about finding 92 pounds of still good, wrapped chocolate thrown out because it was a few days after Easter.

Its pretty sad, and yet we look for ways to end hunger in third world countries. Do we really want to stop hunger or just make it look like we care.

Do your part. Go dumpster diving. I found a great pair of shoes once. Maybe you will find cool things too.

around here they have a system where the expired but still good food goes to and its for less fourtunate families, and if they dont use it they pass it on, good system

I agree. We, the rich, use more than the poor. We waste more in a week than the poor will have in a year.

My sense of smell is wayyy too good for that, though. I couldn't stand the smell.

We have food banks around here where the grocery stores give them the expired, but still good food too. No one is really going hungry in this city as we have about 3 different food banks here. They just need to stop bothering me for toonies so they can buy their beer. :D

We still waste alot. At the place I work, we throw out at least a garbage bag full of muffins and such a night. It goes into the compactor, not to a food bank.

I work in a grocery store... we throw out soooo much food a day. I've asked the manager about this... he told me that we can't send this food to food banks, churches etc. because it's past it's best before date, and could potentially make someone sick. Could it not also potentially save a starving person's life? Anyway, I know how you feel.. it's hard to watch them throw away an entire bag of apples because one of them is rotten... any suggestions or possible solutions would be greatly appreciated!

Why does it feel like more often than not, we as humans are working AGAINST each other, rather than HELPING one another?

Yeah, we're not allowed to give away the wasted food either, it's pretty sad. I worked at an arts and crafts store and they wouldn't let me take home broken merchandise that was going in the trash anyways. How ridiculous is that? I think I'll put on my scuba gear and go dumpster diving down there this week.

When I was back in highschool I worked at a Cici's pizza buffet, and everynight we would throw away about 15 untouched perfect pizzas, they even told us we couldn't take it home because it was for our own saftey.

Maybe they would rather you buy them. If you got free pizza's all the time because they were going to throw them out, you wouldn't ever buy them, right? They are only looking out for your best interest.

i used to work at a grocery store, and was appauled at the stuff i had to throw away just because the stores motto was "Baked Fresh Daily" so anything a day old was thrown out..

because sadly most people that actually make the decision of whether to throw it out or to give it away is always some money bent ass hole and on his mind all he's thinking is "if i'm not getting paid for this food no one is going to get it but the trash" i worked in a country-itallian resturaunt for a week once, they threw away (litearlly) enough pasta and shit in that one week i worked there that you could of literally fed about 4,000 people for a week.

You should talk to your boss about that kind of waste. I'm sure somebody would be happy to eat it.

when I worked at mcdonalds, I was in shock at how much food was wasted...

I mean in a day, there were two garbage cans out in lobby, they were changed 10 times in 8 hours... It's sickening.. And most of the garbage is food. Not to mention the burgers that arn't needed are thrown out after 5 mins.

but most of them are church organized

I got too much damn pride to go to one

my family is uber poor, and we go about 2 weeks a month without food

does anyone know like any sites that you can go to to find food banks in ur area?

It's just food. It's not like they're forcing you to accept their religion along with the food. Well maybe they are, but you need to swallow your pride and accept it. Or just go dumpster diving  It's a thrill and you never know what you'll find...

well its a pretty bad situation but my friends help out, but I got a bad habit of flippin out at times, and church people have this magic power to really make me flip my wig (i got bi-polar and anger problems) I can't fake being christian, i'm still alive so I just tough it out, I always make sure my dad is taken care of though, I'm weird, as long as I have my cigs and soda I could live without eating a good meal

I've been living off of scrounging up chump change and gettin ramen noodles so yeah i guess me wanting food is just being greedy

but as for dumpster diving, I can never find anything besides garbage, but if you go behind blockbusters and stuff, they throw out movies and games that are scratched skipdr them bitches and you have free stuff

The whole idea of eating trash seems rediculous to me. Get a job and stop smoking if you're that strapped for cash. DONT EAT TRASH.

Maybe it has something to do with counteracting consumerism? I'm not jobless and I have plenty of money.

Well, yea. If you're digging through trash for fun, go for it. But if someone is hitting up the dumpsters to eat dinner, then they have major issues.

First off, nobody who worked there ever bought pizza, if anything you would pay 50 cents and eat off the buffet during a break. Second of all why just throw them away... 15 whole pizza's everynight times how many places they have across the country equals a massive amount of wasted food, and if there just throwing it away it isnt free for them because that fills the dumpster which they have to pay to have emptied more often because its full of food instead of trash. So if they would have just let us take it home if we wanted think about how much money everybody saves, it's the only way nobody loses money.

New Recruits (str8 out of boot camp) get the the privilege of diving into a foul smelling dumpster. For the soul purpose of cleaning it out. Well while your in their might as well take all damn day. Why make more work for yourself when you don't have to. lol

It just depends on the area the dumpster is in. You won't find much in a crappy neighborhood.
