View Full Version : Harvesting questions...

Okay, I am on my first plant here. I got very lucky. I planted one seed, and got a female!...lol

Not only was I lucky there, but I should have killed this poor plant at least 3 times. She lived though.

She is now About 36 inches by 36 inches. She has 5 tops (Hey the 5 tops!) and 3 more shoots that think they are tops. I swear I have 2 tops that are the same size and look identical and think they are each the top Cola. Weirdest thing I have ever seen.

I did this more as a bonsai than Scrog but either way. When topping reached 4-6 nodes, I would tie them down. Also, to begin, just to get coverage of the area I was looking for, I purposely stretched the plant and then stopped the stretching once tie downs were done and I had the base I was looking for.

She is entering her second week of flowering.

Okay, the questions:

1. When you harvest in phases, how long can you do that? I heard cutting a shoot halfway down and letting the rest of the buds mature was a good way to do it, but I have also heard that if you cut a plant during flowering, it will go into survival mode?

Also, I thought you had to include the roots when you harvest it? What if I have to do 3 phases? Can that be done?

2. When you harvest, what do you do with the leaves that have dried with the plant and in the buds? I heard that you should not smoke them in many posts??? Bt I have seen others that were covered in snow? Which is it?

Thanks guys I know this is probably boring and basic for a lot of you.

the leaves that are covered in tricholmes are very much smokable if you chuck those away you are chucking away good smoke remember that it is the trichomes that hold the thc and get you stoned so never chuck away a snowy leaf lol

harvest is generally is 6-8 weeks depending on maturity of trichomes.

I harvest entire plant...others harvest top and leave bottom to mature. I just did this on a re-veg and it reverted back to veg state. All the lower small buds died off and looks like it did when i re-vegged then last time. I am not saying this is the rule, but it just happened to me.

the presence of trichomes means that there is potential for thc; Not a confirmation...
make hash or; I only prune the isolated fan leaves, leaving the others wrap around the bud and protect it. I grind the whole bud small leaves-buds-leaves-thrichome-thc, and all;
For a very enjoyable smoke...goodluck

ROFL BDS.

Latewood, thanks, that answers my question. The lower buds are actually looking like they will catch up (kind of) to the top ones soon... so maybe it will all be ready at once. I will def. trim the fans as some of the leaves on the fan leaves are 7 inches long and growing. This was my first grow... and I now know to start flowering at about 18 inches...lol Wait for 30 inches and the thing gets out of control!

Dont ALL parts of a plant have THC? I can feel a high from smokin fan leaves or stems that have no trichomes. The high is weak and short lived, but still, a high.

Latewood: You were actually very clear and I knew you meant not to trim them until it was drying... but thanks for the follow up! I appreciate ALL advice.

PostmanDave: You know, I have no idea. It was a bag seed from a bag that caused no paranoia, through and through. So I wanted my own batch of it. (probably had more to do with harvest time than strain) I would love info on that if anyone knows.

ALSO anyone who may know what strain it is, I would love to know.

smoknjoe: I have heard the same thing... that it is more smoothness, taste & power as to why people dont smoke stems & most fan leaves. I am sure if you ground them up, you could smoke them and get high. I heard, and this may or may not be true, that the fan leaves and stems may only hold 10-15% of the stuff you want when compared to the buds of the same plant. They may also taste like a sweaty fat lady's ass as well...lol

I dont know for sure though.

PS. Of course I am lying, I have never smoked, bought or grown anything illegal!

It's not the thc your feeling its other chemicals , but yes you will FEEL the who plant in your head....lol....if it is good stuff , if the buds are low grade and not a strong high rest of the plant is garbage....but you can still grind it all up in the end and make hash .....that would get you a little hi even on a sucky plant.
