Do you think that if you smoke too much pot for too long you actually become a stereotypical lazy dumb stoner? Where does that stereotype come from? I think it's just that people who are lazy and dumb are the ones who smoke way too much weed to begin with and people blame the weed. If they quit they'll still be lazy and dumb. But do any of you actually feel that it's the other way around and that the weed is to blame.

I've met people who are 100% the stereotype, and its really quite pathetic.

I, on the other hand have been smoking daily for a few years now, and am not at all like that, I'm a stoner by definition, not by appearence.

The stereotype is largely false. For some people, the body high of pot leads them to sit around lazily while high. Combine that with being high often (or constantly), and you've got a stereotypical stoner. I don't know that these same people would sit around lazily all day anyway, but the fact remains that this behaviour is based on those individuals' personalities, not the herb itself. I've always been somewhat lazy, but I'm no lazier when I smoke regularly than I am when I go without - just happier, more relaxed and generally in a better mood.

honestly it's kind of the opposite for me, pot makes dull things seem fun to me so i do a lot more when i'm high than when i'm not

I don't think weed is to blame. If I ever thought I was becoming lazier and dumber because of weed, I'd quit. I still play sports too. I'm on a hockey team and I'm going to be on a softball team, and besides, playing basketball is one of my favorite things to do after I've smoked. So I know weed hasn't made me lazier. Short term memory, yes.

Math is just fucking hard anyway, I wouldn't know if it was any harder if I didn't smoke weed because the subjects in maths I've never had before.

Anyway, I'm convinced there's a stoner X factor, but its not ignorant lazyness. Dumb and lazy is how I wanna be when I'm stoned though, they say "ignorance is bliss" and it's fucking true. Same goes for lazyness, I love sitting on my ass.

My attitude towards life and shit has changed though since I've become a "pothead". I'm actually able to just sit somewhere and do absolutely nothing (stare at something) for quite some time. Not that I ever measured how long though. I guess an hour or two, like, I'm in stand-by mode lol.

Stoner stereotype is most likely influenced/created by anti-stoner campaigns and Enemies of the Green Goal

I think it just the type of person..and weed are attracted to each other..like normally lazy people just like to get lazier and they smoke pot. So it just makes a lazy person like 2x the time lazy...did that make any sense at all?

Eh who cares? If someone wants to be dumb and lazy, let them. I'm incredibly lazy, intelligent..but lazy. I think lazy is the way to go...everyone else is just rushing for death all their life. Us lazy folks sit back, chill, smoke a blunt, and watch the sun rise.

I've smoked pot everyday for 14 years and I'm not la......

I used to smoke every morning before work and went from shopfloor to research and development in 5 years. That doesn't happen if your lazy.

hmm. this is a toughie because as much as i like to think i'm not lazy, since ive been smoking daily for the past few years my whole lifestyle has completely changed. i think that bill hicks quote applies here, "marijuana doesnt make you unmotivated. when you're high you can do everything you normally can, just as well. you just realize it's not worth the fucking effort". i mean, i wouldn't call myself lazy or anything (near-daily treks into the woods would prevent that), but i definitley reorganize my priorities a bit more. why the fuck should i do math homework if i can go blaze with my friends? i can still be an intelligent and productive person, i just like to get high. overall though i think the stereotypes are pretty true, mostly because stoners are laid-back in general. the laziness and apathy arguments are negligible, but being carefree and taking things as hey come aren't bad categories to be pigeonholed into.

But do any of you actually feel that it's the other way around and that the weed is to blame.

Weed doesnâ??t directly cause you to be lazy for periods when you are not high, so for example you could smoke a massive amount of weed everyday for a year, and you wouldn't be lazy after quitting. However, Smoking weed will make you lazy while your high, especially when you're burning out. Smoking weed and going to bed while your high or burning out can also make you feel lethargic the next day. Given all of this it's easy to see why people who smoke weed often, are stereotyped as being lazy and dumb. Now this may be true because they are ether high or burnt out a lot of the time. However, if they stopped smoking (completely or as often) they would no longer be lazy or stupid for a large percentage of the time (unless they were like that to begin with, and many ppl are).

Weed does not make you dumb!
Try cheching your IQ's sometime, long term smoking of weed has been shown to increase intelligence not lower it.
Being to stoned to think is a different matter altogether :stoned: wow

Depends on the pot... I had one bag that after you smoked it you just wanted to maybe have a snack fuck and go to sleep. I hadn't slept much that week so that was some good R and R. But no I will never just become that stereotypical lazy dumb ass that your talking about, I work to hard just for me just to become that would be crazy and way life changing.

I pretty much sit my ass in front of my computer all day, but then again that is exactly what Iâ??ve been doing basically every day since I turned 13 and I didnâ??t really start smoking until after I was 18. I also donâ??t let it get in the way of important shit.

I've always been lazy, and weed hasn't contributed to or taken away from that problem. I just don't care. All I care about is making myself happy, you know?

Why lead a life full of hassles so you can die rich? Who says money buys happiness?

Not me.

Why make your life a living hell in the hopes of being rewarded in an afterlife that is not promised you? Do you really KNOW that there is an afterlife? Who says there even is a heaven?

Not me.

My idea of an afterlife is basically either becoming one with the universe or becoming a ghost-type figure and just watching the living and/or talking with my fellow deceased.

I want a life worth looking back upon. I want to be in my 60's and think "Damn, I had such a fun life!" I don't want to be on my deathbed, surrounded by great riches and people who love me even though I've never spoken to them thinking "Damn, I worked hard all my life and now I have no reward."

Why exercise? Maybe to look good, but not to be healthy.

Healthy people die by the millions. I agree with Bill Hicks, some of these health nuts entertain some notion of immortality. I, however, don't. I just don't want to die before, say, my 50's.

Anyway, the point is, there's more to life than working hard. So what if you do nothing? If you're happy doing nothing, so be it. I DO do something, though. My parents think I'm a lazy bum, but most of the time I'm on this computer listening to music and talking to my friends. It's fun, you know? And, ganja has made me much more sociable. So, you know what? I'm a happy guy. I'm 15, and I love life. There's only one little bit missing, but it's soon to be fulfilled. After that, I need nothing more.

Sorry...that was a bit of a rant...

Alot of the time I think people are either lazy to begin with or they become that way slowly because of the stereotype not because of weed. But that stereotype had to come from somewhere. I thin it's just a personality issue more than it is about the weed. I mean if a straight A student smoked weed daily he could still keep his study habits the same. It's just alot of the straight A makers are againt weed because they believe the D.A.R.E. program's lies because they assume their government would never lie to them. I have met many smokers who were straight A students and remained that way years after their first time toking up. I am an A B student and remained that way even though I'm stoned in school about 3 or 4 days out of the school week.
