Ok, since I've seen many threads on here asking on how exactly to germinate seeds the best, this is what I've seen work the best.. For me atleast:p

Step one, get seeds! As shown in picture number one.

Step two, put the seeds in a cup/glass of water, and wait for them to crack. I don't find this necessary, it was more of a set back for me than anything else. As shown in pic number two.

Step three, here is where you get sucsessfull. Put the seedsi in a paper towel, and SOAK the paper. After you've soaked it, wait until it's moist, or a little bit drier than moist. (NEVER let it get dry; but if they do, SOAK the paper and you might be lucky enough to see them live another day) As shown in pic number three.

Step four, put the seeds in the soil. Use tweezers, and MAKE SURE the taproot faces DOWN into the soil. As shown in pic number four.

Step five, wait until they have sprouted, and you are most likely of for a safe start in your grow.

Good luck, and I hope this helped you all!:)

Yeah.. Offcourse that method can also be done.. But doing this, with good, fresh seeds, I've always had 100% germination.. :)

P.S. I just did this cause I thought it was a good idea:)

Feel free to add to, or correct me if you want:)

There are lots of different ways to germinate. When planting a seed, the tap root is supposed to face upwards. Its supposed to curl up over the seed then back down again. The first thing you should see is a little loop of root/stem coming out of the medium. It then pulls the seed up and uncurls. See pics. It's different if you use the paper towel method though. The tap root seems to just come out straight most of the time. In the past I've then just planted it with the root facing down and the seed part level with the top of the medium.

Hmmm that is a strange method of geminating. How do you tell the tap root to bend?

One love

Germination is simple. You don't have to get fancy.Put in the paper towel for 1 to 7 days and keep it wet.Thats all. Plant pointy side down .

I'm 99.9% sure that seeds are engineered to germinate in the way described by my previous post. I think it may allow more root to grow before surfacing therefore gaining more strength. I remember this from science class and a grow book I read a long time ago. Give it a go next time. You'll see what I mean. Plant the seed about 0.5 to 1cm under the medium with the pointy tip facing up. Can someone who has read a lot of grow books please confirm this and/or give more information. Zandor maybe? In the mean time I will see if I can get some pictures.

I know what homie's talkin about.. what i did was germinate a seed and grow it in a paper towel til the 1st node.. the root curls around like that naturally sometimes... otherwise it waits til its stable to grow in a straight line(up)..

The method I use is this:

soak the papertowel with warm water.. the water should be warm enough to have a nice relaxing bath.. NOT HOT ENOUGH FOR A SHOWER (u'll cook the seed).. the papertowl should be as wet as u said.. place the seeds inside the papertwel and ball it up VERY LOOSELY, and place it in a ziplock.. DO NOT VACUUM SEAL, let the air stay in there.. what'll happen is the pressure building up from the evaporating water will even out entirely inthe bag (incliding in the seed) and increase til the seed cracks.. after sealing the bag, wrap it in a shirt losely, and place it on a heater (not a stove, not a burner, a room heater).. the shirt will absorb the high intensity heat too hot for the bag (heater might melt the bag if placed directly on) and disperse heat evenly to the bag, keeping the paper towel warm.. 8 hrs u should see results..

So....the stringy thing (i'm assuming is the tap root) is what you put inside of the soil like..."tap-root-first" if you get what I'm saying? I'm not too big on germination.

me and my friend tried growing some and i believe he also put the seeds in with all the roots pointing up, i never noticed anything wrong with them, this is the firs ttime i heard about putting htem pointing down(even though it makes sense to put the roots facing down), now i'm confused?????

Sorry, you're wrong.

The taproot should be facing DOWNWARDS when put into soil. Why? Because that's the way the MJ seed works, it digs into the soil, curves upwards and then back down again. Sorry, i'm not good at explaining things...so i've made a lil diagram...

Thanks for this thread, threadstarter... good to see a step-by-step guide for germination for the newbies.

I skipped reading everyones ways of germination so forgive me if this was said:

I soak mine in a cup of luke warm water until they sink to the bottom, you might have to prod them around a few times to get them to sink.

Once they sink i place them inbetween two moist paper towels(luke warm) I fold this up and place it in a ziplock baggie, I let most of the air out.

I proceed to placing this bag in a moist tupperware container and place it atop my computer monitor.

Then you wait....
