View Full Version : pruning for flowering?
is it good to prune for flowering to increase yield?
does it even increase yield?
i am 1 week into flowering now and want to prune
i figure pruning the leaves on the bottom will make the plant focus its "power" on one single cola instead of multiple bud sites
i figure the bud sites on the bottom of the plant aren't receiving a lot of light anyways, therefore its a waste of "energy" since the bud wouldn't come out good
what do you guys think?
thanks:thumbsup:

Depends
if your plant is 3 feet tall and you are just flowering now.. and you are using fluorescent lighting from the TOP..
you better prune the bottom 2 feet..
LOL
as you begin to get grow experience , you will grow your plants to a perfect height.. and then flower.. requirng veryvrey little pruning
post a pic please
: )

If you prune for single cola leave the bottom leaves on the bottom branches on as kind of like booster packs. Take off the buds when they first start to develop on the lower shaded braches. A plant starts turning at the top progressing to the bottom on the first and second turning (and the third but not worth the wait) The idea is not only will the energy be focused on the main single cola but flowering time is shortened as you dont have to wait for the little crap nugs to turn. This is why tall plants usually take a longer time to flower.

you mine as well just cut the entire lower branch off.the little ones that aren't doing much...chop the whole thing off.
Before flowering preferably but you can do it now if you want.
On second thought leaving the leaves on there is not a bad idea.like you said it's like reserve nutes.
here are some pics
full plant, biggest one we have is a little over 2 feet

I would let those grow. Perhaps time for a two gallon pot though.

the bigger branches should have a decent cola on them at the top
just some more info
tried to run a 1000w again w/ a vented hood and it got 87 in there so we're going to borrow a 400w and run about 10 CFLs outputing 130W each
