howmany plants can i grow under a 400w hps with maybe 1 or 2 cfls and foil on the walls ?

Id replace the foil with mylar, as foil can cause hotspots on the plants, plus mylar reflects 98% of the light. It costs around £2.50 for a sheet that measures 1m x 1.4m. Oh, and add the CFL's as sidelighting, especially in the budding stage. This will make the buds that bit denser, increase potency and also speed up budding a little depending on how many CFL's you have and what wattage they are.
It all depends on the space really, but with a 400w HPS and a few CFL's added in for good measure, around 4-5 plants should be no problem.

P.S I dont consider myself an expert, Im at the 'intermediate' stage :o so I may not be correct on the number of plants. I would think that 4 would probably be best, as I dont know how tall those plants grow.
If theyre indica dominant and grow quite short, you could do the Sea/Screen of Green method (SOG/SCROG) and fit 6 in.

hi, v in my experiece i've only been able to get 5-6 plants max outa 400watters thats y i got my new 1000watter 14-18 plants max so i would say about 4 or 5 is a good estemit for u!

I would say about 8-10, but Mand manages to grow about 16

I'd do at least 6.

I've got 2 250 watters and 6 works fine for me. If I TRIED keeping them short (which I'm letting them flourish) then I'd probably do 8 or 10.

well i want to grow atleast 8-10
so do i really need to get the 1000 watt hps cause then i need a fan and stuff lol

Hello Villui :) it's right about what Buk says, normally I grow Sensi Seeds and they come in packs of sixteen, so I like to grow the full pack.
This does however usually produce an overcrowding problem untill I have got rid of the males.
To be honest I think ten is a nice number to grow under 400 watts. My lastest grow has nine out of ten seeds, I would prefer a few more but I'm going to try it with nine and see if I can get a little more light to the plants due too there being less of them in numbers.


I reckon go with ten and try it ;)
