hi my fellow growers
i have germinated seeds in rockwool before will a reasonable succsess so i was just wondering would it be better to germinate the seeds using the paper towel mothod then put them into the rockwool,or would it be best to just put the un germinated seeds straight into the rockwool.
please can u tell me in ur opinion which works better and the results u have had.......

When i did use seeds it was always in PTowel. I use clones now with rockwool. The thing with PT's is that you have to keep an eye on them and make sure they dont dry out. I put mine in plastic containers with lids in the dark. -7 days would usually be long enough for germination to take place.

i germinated my white rhino seed in 6 days i did it in a jar with dampend cotton wool and put it in a warm dark place i was surprised but the tap root in the end was about 2 or 3 inches long so keep an eye on it if you are gonna plant it in something small if you germinate it in a jar make sure you can see the seed at the side of the jar so you can check it without poking and disturbing it too much ill post a few pics for ya to see
hope this helps :)

Good advice busteruk. Just so everyone knows, you should move the germinated seed into soil as soon as the root breaks out.

Personally, I just place them straight in the rockwool.. works fine for me!

a clean washcloth has always proven to work best for me. it's gotta be clean, and i always rinse it out in strait water to get rid of any detergents left in from the wash. it's proven better than paper towels in my experience. and way better than soaking them in a jar.

i have a 100% record (so far) with just putting them straight into rockwell. Just remember to soak the rockwell in correct ph water a couple of days before u put the seeds in. Then stick them under some low wattage cfc's till they pop then add more light as u see fit! less handling the delicate little plants that way. i then put them in soil when the first roots r coming out of bottom of rockwell. only prob with rockwell is that it dries out quickly and u need to check it couple times a day or ur plants may get too dry.
