I would go with The Beatles, they basically set the basis for all Rock & Roll.

Chuck Berry invented Rock N' Roll. The Beatles were just highly influential in the technological advancements in music studios.

Lynyrd Skynyrd is my favorite band of all time, along with ACDC. But I was never a fan of Freebird, I feel it is overrated. I like Simple Man, Whiskey Rock and Roller, and On the Hunt much better. But as far as bands go, I say the best are ACDC, Skynyrd, and Zeppelin.

Oh yeah, forgot about the Rolling Stones, they are definitely on the list

Considering when Free Bird was released, it was pretty good. Though most long songs are overrated, I still think Stairway to Heaven is much more overrated. In the late 60's most bands weren't just Classic Rock n' Roll bands: they were all psychedealic or some other gimmick, and Skynyrd was a fresh new sound. Though I love Free Bird, I also love songs that showed Skynyrd was more than just Southern rockers like Thing Goin' On, Tuesday's Gone, Blues Medley, and Gimme Three Steps and Call Me The Breeze.

I don't know the "greatest band" is, or was, but Ike Turner is, according to Little Richard and a lot of other people the real Father of Rock and Roll - and this all happened before he even met Tina. He's still going strong.

I don't have any specific bands that I would mention as the greatest, but I will say this: "Soft rock" is just as much an oxymoron in music as it is in geology. If it isn't hard enough to be real rock, it's just dirt.

I would say either Lynyrd Skynyrd for true Rock N Roll, but newer stuff, I'd say Pantera. Such precision playing and aggresion, but not so much where you can't understand what he's saying.

That's just me though. I'd say Led Zeppelin, but after listening to them, I noticed that a lot of their music is quite sloppy.

Nickelback is one of the worse bands I've ever heard. They've come up with about 1 1/2 chord progressions and melodies that they recycle for EVERY other song they do.

Nickelback without a doubt are on of the worst bands i've heard and i use the term band loosely.

Tool are the best in my opinion yet again they are current, new album coming out this year.

I agree its got to be the Beatles. There are a lot of bands I like more but the question wasn't "who is your favorite?" Just the fact that the "Beatles One" cd went to the top of the charts when it was released, more than 30 years after any of the songs on it were originally recorded, says a lot about them. The thing about the Beatles is that were just soo good together, definitely a case of the total being so much more than the sum of the parts.
