okay, so i made a one-hitter with a piece of window screen as a screen, as i have seen suggested here before. when i was testing it out(just puffing on it, not inhaling), i thought i smelled smoke, so i took out the screen, and held a lighter flame up to it for a few seconds, then it fucking CAUGHT-ON-FIRE!! there were fucking black as death fumes coming off it too! it held the flame for about 15 seconds too! what the fuck is up with this? i thought someone on here said to use a window screen!! help, please!

then it was a plastic window screen, when me or anyone says 'window screen' it's under the assumption those who choose to apply it are smart enough to know we're talking about metal window screens.. however.. if the questioned window screen is metal, but old.. it will have shit burn off it, and i always used to burn mine first... it burns off most (or all) of the shit it's collected while it was exposed to the outdoors..

well then before you put it in your bong give it a good 20-25 second burn (yellow flame works best) to burn off all *or most* of the impurities.. should be fine, i used that method for years...

Sorry if it's been said, but unfortueatley alot of modern day ones are vinyl or plastic and melt easily. Mine are too and it pisses me off. A good bowl is to take a bunch of twisty ties and pull the paper off (burn it or rip it) and make them into a screen by balling them. I always do it and when you want to clean it you can unball t and scrape the stuff off and redo it.

why even use a screen? if your pipe is glass you are defeating the purpose. if it is wood or metal you should by a glass pipe.

Gotta agree. Funny though, 15-20 years ago nobody ever used glass. We always thought glass pipes were just for freebasing or, later on, crack. Now that I've given up my wood, ceramic, and brass pipes for glass I'll never go back.:smokin:

I still use a screen though. One of thise little glass flower things. Works for me.

Glass is the best, check out my phatty pipe, its been dropped and banded while in my jacket a million times and hasnt even cracked and i just cleaned it and got sooo much resin, a few pounds has gone into my pipe, and now i know where it went!

np... i use glass (pretty much exclusively) but i'm not all stuck up about it..i'll just as soon smoke out of home made metal as i will bought glass... some of these people and how they act towards people who don't use glass remind me very strongly of the stuck up bitches who won't hang out with the kids that can't afford tommy hillfiger and shit like that.. btw, i can't tellyou where exactly they would be, cuz i haven't gone yet.. but the hardware store sells the same screens that you'll get like 10 for a dollar in a head shop, but they sell them in like packages of 50 for 2.99 and stuff... i need to go find some but i never remember when i'm out that way that i need to.. but yea if you can find out where they keep the brass screens in there (best bet would be plumbing) then you can use those too.. and they're already circular like a bowl.
