Which are louder
the vortex fans or the dayton fans???
comparing same cfm's

I've got a Dayton 10" 550CFM axial fan... and the thing is loud.

Not like a helicopter, but it's loud.
I just bought a NuTone 300CFM bathroom exhaust fan... that's more quiet... much more.

You can always build like a "muffler" box, and install your fans in there to keep noise down.

You can always get a fan speed controller and turn it down when you need to.. just a thought

True... but check your fan... there are fans that you can't use a speed controller... or you'll end up damaging it.

true but my fan speed controller is ok up to 1.0A.. most fans dont go near!

True...

But there are fans that you simply cannot regulate the speed... they NEED a 120v input, cycling at 60Hz... don't fuck with it, or you'll burn it.

Question: Is your speed controller for fans? It isn't a light dimmer switch, is it?

If it's a fan speed controll, how much did it cost you? I'm interested because I'd like to dial-IN my room better, and I need two of those speed controllers. Thanks bud!

Oh jesus christ no it isnt a light dimmer switch, i know that's pretty damn dangerous - read all that on overgrow. It's a fan speed controller purchased from the hydro shop growell.co.uk. It's a potentiometer which although is not ideal, for low wattage 240v fans it is adequate. But as you say, some fans can't have the speed regulated in which case you need to use a variable frequency drive to regulate the frequency (surprisingly lol) - can get em off ebay or electronics shops. I decided to take the easier, debatebly less safe option but have had it running for a year now with no problems.
Good discussion man, think i'm gonna be at home on this board.

Oh and the module cost me about 12 pounds, I can link you if you can't find it.
