I was just wondering, should I put the light on the seeds when they are first planted? or wait for them to breakthrough the surface of the soil before turning the light on?

thanx for your help

if you germinated them, then turn it on! if you didn't, probably turn it on but im not sure, someone else will tell ya.

So i guess im wondering then how do i germinate the seeds? i just thought you put them in moist soil and that was considered germinating them.

Thats fine, they will germinate like that.

Some people prefer to germinate first in a moist paper towl, or other methods, and then put them in the soil. But yea, putting them directly in the soil is fine. Not sure if light is on or off... I would guess on.

You don't really need the light on until the seedling actually breaks the soil. There, it'll expose it's cotyledons [ the round leaves ] to begin photosynthesis. Oh, and some people do like to germinate using the papertowel method, I being one of them. I prefer this because it really roots out the weak seed stock from the good --- and it gets them above the soil a bit quicker what with already having a taproot ready to search for water.

The sponge should be fine. Just make sure it's holding it's weight in water, but not so much that it drains half a fucking cup when you pick it up. From there you could just stick the sponge in a ziplock bag to keep moisture and put the bag somewhere dark for a couple days.

The prob I have had with sponges,,, is the tap root will sometimes grow its self down into the sponge over nite. Makes it a bitch to remove with out killing it. Good Luck
